13 Celebrities Share The Encounters With Ghosts That Still Haunt Them

If you believe you've noticed some paranormal activity in your home, you're not alone.

As many as 45% of Americans say they believe in ghosts, and that includes lots of celebrities. Some have even shared the spooky stories about their encounters with the paranormal.

1. Emma Stone

Gage Skidmore

The La La Land actress insists she's haunted by one of her relatives. While Stone never met her grandfather, she says he had "a long family history with quarters," and the actress finds the coins in the most unusual places. "My grandfather leaves quarters. It's him. It's absolutely him," she says.

2. Jenna Bush-Hager

AOL

Is the West Wing haunted? This former First Daughter thinks so. She described being woken up by the fireplace in her bedroom when "all of a sudden I heard 1920's music coming out." While she "freaked out," her sister Barbara was more logical. "Please go back to sleep," she said. "This is ridiculous."

For the record, she's not the only one who saw spirits in the White House.

3. John Schneider

Hallmark

The Dukes of Hazzard star recalls waking up at 2 a.m. to find "somebody was going through something right in front of the bed." He described the spirit as a man in a raincoat, with a suit underneath "from the late '50s or early '60s." When the man turned around, he quickly vanished.

Schneider thought it was a dream, until he woke up and told his wife about it. She had seen the same man.

4. Johnny Galecki

AP

The Big Bang Theory actor owns a 150-year-old cabin, which he says is so haunted. Creepy and unexplained things happen so often inside the building that Galecki forbids his guests from discussing anything strange.

One night a guest broke his rule, and just afterwards a light bulb exploded over another friend's head.

5. Miley Cyrus

NBC

This judge from The Voice once fled her apartment for a hotel room after seeing a ghost. Cyrus heard her little sister screaming in the bathroom of her London flat. "I run in there and the water had somehow flipped to hot but she hadn't turned it and it was burning her," she told Elle UK. "She was really red."

Before she ran out of the apartment, Cyrus spotted "this little boy sitting there on the sink, kicking his feet."

6. Demi Lovato

Live Arena

The pop star calls her childhood home in Texas "so ridiculously haunted," and even claims to know the ghost's name. Lovato has been speaking to a ghost named Emily since she was a little girl. "There were so many times that I saw her when I was growing up," the singer remembers.

"When I was 3 years old my mom caught me talking to something by myself. She asked, "˜Who are you talking to?' and I said, "˜My best friend Emily.' She's playful. Younger." Even after being visited by mediums and ghost hunters, Emily still dwells in the home.

7. Dan Akyroyd

The Ghostbuster star has spoken openly about his belief in the paranormal. He believes he was haunted himself by another celebrity, "Mama" Cass Elliott from the band The Mamas and the Papas.

Columbia Pictures

Akyroyd bought Elliott's former home, and says it was haunted by the singer and another man. Along with bumps in the night and moving objects, Akyroyd had a close encounter with one of the ghosts.

"I was alone in the house and decided to take a nap. I closed the door to the bedroom but didn't lock it. I woke up...I saw the door open, and I rolled over and looked at the bed, and I saw the depression in the mattress, like somebody was getting in there. And I thought, "˜I'm just going to roll over and snuggle up next to it.' I'd be surprised if I was his type, but when you're dead, you'll take what you can get."

8. Carrie Fisher

Preen

The late Star Wars actress revealed she was haunted for months after one of her close friends died in her home. Political strategist R. Gregory Stevens died of an overdose while sleeping in Fisher's bed, and she left his clothes in her closet for months.

At night, she would feel his presence in her bedroom. "Lights would go on and off, and this [talking] toy machine [I had] would go off in the night, by itself, in my closet." A psychic blamed the disturbances on Stevens's restless soul.

9. Kate Hudson and Goldie Hawn

FilmMagic

This mother-daughter acting duo insist that they "see dead people," but describe it as "feeling a spirit" instead of actually seeing one. Hudson revealed they even have a method for dealing with ghosts. "When you see something, you are supposed to tell the energy what year it is and that they don't belong there."

10. Keanu Reeves

Daily Mirror

The action movie star described a scary brush with the unexplained when he was just six or seven years old. "There was a doorway and all of a sudden this jacket comes waving through the doorway, this empty jacket "” there's no body, there's no legs, it's just there. And then it disappears." The actor thought he must have imagined the sight, until he saw his nanny's terrified face and realized it had really happened.

11. Matthew McConaughey

Stats at 60

Ironically, McConaughey was promoting Ghosts of Girlfriends Past when he shared his own ghost story. The actor described sharing his apartment with "Madame Blu," the cranky ghost of its former owner.

"She wasn't that happy," he said about their first meeting. "It didn't seem like she was going to be much fun to hang around or have in my house, so I went ahead and stood my ground. I opened the door and said 'You can move around all you want but I'm not going anywhere.' For weeks everyone that came to the house said the same thing: 'There's someone down in that hall, there's somebody down in that hall.'"

12. Aaron Carter

FilmMagic

On Celebrity Ghost Stories, the pop star revealed that his grandmother asked him to perform a ritual when she died. Carter described her as a true believer in the afterlife, who wanted to prove its existence.

Following her instructions, after she died Carter lit a candle and blew it out. He says his grandmother materialized in his room out of a rush of cold air and said "I told you," before vanishing.

13. Rue McClanahan

Real Simple

The Golden Girls actress made an arrangement with her close friend Rill before he died, asking him to send her a sign from beyond the grave using electricity. The night he died, she stayed in his home, and says Rill kept his promise.

Light bulbs shattered, computers went haywire, and Rill even manifested in the living room, telling McClanahan "Hey, it's no big deal."
