Dairy Queen Is Giving Away Free Ice Cream

Not everyone will agree, but there aren't a lot of things out there that are better than ice cream, especially when it's the classic, uncomplicated vanilla soft-serve.

Now that the weather is starting to warm up (sort of), you can find me making up excuses to stand in line at my local ice cream shops. I really shouldn't have to justify my need for ice cream, which is why I always get excited for Dairy Queen's Free Cone Day.

For three years in a row, I have lined up at Dairy Queen to celebrate the beginning of the new season with some cool treats, and I feel great doing it because I'm also supporting a great cause. It's a win-win situation, and this year will be no different.

The fast-food chain just announced that it'll kicking off spring with its fourth annual Free Cone Day in support of Children's Miracle Network.

Just like in previous years, participating non-mall Dairy Queen and DQ Grill & Chill locations across the nation will be giving away one free small vanilla soft serve cone to everyone who visits on March 20th.

"We love that our tradition of Free Cone Day has become synonymous with return of warmer weather and bringing people together," Maria Hokanson, executive vice president of marketing, said in a statement. "We know the start of soft-serve season brings joy to our fans, and we can't wait to help spread smiles."

According to the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals website, Dairy Queen has "raised more than $130 million since 1984," and once again this year, every location "will use the opportunity to raise critical funds for their local children's hospital by giving the cone in exchange for a donation or by adding toppings or dipping the cone for a contribution."

Last year, the company raised $300,000, so their goal is to raise even more funds this year.

Who will you take with you to get some free DQ ice cream?
