'Fixer Upper' Couple Welcome Fifth Child, And Break Tradition With An Uncommon Name

Chip and Joanna Gaines, best known as the stars of the hit HGTV show Fixer Upper, have a shared love for home renovation, but there is something else that they love more: their family.

"Family is the most important thing in the world" Joanna said in a 2017 interview.

Last June, the mom and businesswoman admitted that she wasn't ready to stop having children, even though she and Chip are already parents to four kids, Drake, 12, Ella, 11, Duke, 9, and Emmie Kay, 7.

"I would love another baby "” or twins! The kids are always asking me, "˜Mom, can you have another baby?' But Chip thinks we're done," Joanna said.

Three months later, the couple announced that they will be ending the show so they could spend more of their time, energy and focus on their family and businesses.

Around the same time, Chip told Houston's KTRK that he was finally ready to grow their family.

"We had four babies right before the show started, and then we've had zero babies since the show started," he explained. "For me, I'm really excited to go back and try to maybe ... try to make some more babies."

The couple wasted no time in trying for another baby, and in January, they revealed that they were expecting.

"Gaines party of 7.. (If you're still confused.. WE ARE PREGNANT) @joannagaines," Chip captioned an Instagram photo of him and his wife.

Sadly, their news was met with some negativity from people who felt that not only are Chip and Joanna "contributing to the over population of the planet," they were using the baby as a way to repair their allegedly rocky marriage.

"The "˜We're back together sex kid' never fixes a marriage, " wrote one Facebook user. "Just means one more kid, the marriage is still broken, and now the kid has to do pay for broken marriage sex."

The couple did not respond, and neither did they let the harsh reactions deter them from sharing their pregnancy journey with their fans.

In March, they Chip uploaded a video on Twitter in which he revealed they were having a baby boy.

"A boy! Is that a secret? I don't know"”that might not even be allowed on Twitter. You better keep that to yourself, dude!" he said in the clip. "I need a D-name, and so far all I can come up with is Dragon, and [Joanna's] like, 'You are not calling that baby Dragon!'"

Finally, on Saturday June 23, Joanna shared a post on Instagram announcing the arrival of the new addition to the Gaines family.

Turns out, the baby was not due for another two-and-a-half weeks, so he made an "unexpected and speedy entrance into the world," which Joanna says is " fitting given he was a sweet surprise from day one."

The new mom also revealed the name of their youngest boy, and it was far from what everyone was expecting.

Instead of sticking with the tradition of giving their boys names that start with the letter "D," they named the new baby Crew.

"Our baby boy, Crew Gaines, is here and we couldn't be more in love," Joanna wrote in the caption of a gallery of photos from the hospital. "Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. We are so grateful."

According to Nameberry, Crew is a rare name as it only broke into the U.S. top 1,000 in 2010. The name dates back to 1995, when it made its first appearance on the Social Security extended list. At the time, only six baby boys had the name.

The moniker has since gained a bit more popularity, especially since some celebrities, like actor Joshua Morrow of The Young and the Restless, picked it for his son in 2005.

As for Chip and Joanna, they haven't explained why they chose the name, but we're sure they have excellent reasons.

Joanna has continued to share photos of baby Crew and his older siblings on Instagram. In one of the photos, the older Gaines children can be seen awaiting the arrival of their brother.

"One of my favorite pics a friend showed me after Crew was born. They couldn't wait to meet their new baby brother ❤️," she wrote.

A few weeks prior to Crew's birth, Chip and Joanna opened up to People about how they will be splitting parenting responsibilities.

"Chip is the best swaddler," Joanna said. "He's always been able to rock our babies to sleep. He's like, "˜I'm going to be holding the baby the entire time!'"

As for their future plans, the couple may not be done having children.

"I joke with my friends that I'm going to be that 45-year-old who's pregnant," Joanna added. We both love a big family. I'm open to whatever. I'm just having fun with it."

Congratulations to the Gaines family! We can't wait to see more photos of baby Crew!
