Have you ever wondered if there's a more efficient way to complete certain tasks at home?

If you've been doing these repeated tasks for many years, then you probably haven't given this much thought. Like the old saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Every now and then, people are sharing new ways to use common household items that will blow your mind.

Is There A Right Way To Use A Cheese Grater?

If you're like me and struggle to grate cheese with ease, you'll love this trick.

Twitter user beasymss shared a post by menuserved on her page that's gaining a lot of traction, because people can't believe they've been using a cheese grater wrong their whole life.

You just showed me lol I'm 45.

Omg my life is changed ... I feel like obliged to go and grate cheese now.

Once learning this hack, some people were quick to try it out for themselves, and agreed that it does make a huge difference.

Literally cheese grating will never be the same again.

I just tried this with dinner and it was so much easier, what the heck.

How It Works

The trick is quite simple: Lay your box grater horizontally on a surface that won't get scratched with the holes facing up.

Then grate the cheese back and forth.

You see, grating cheese vertically actually makes the process more difficult and time-consuming.

Horizontal grating prevents cheese from clumping up and doesn't put too much strain on your wrist.

But not everyone's impressed by this trick...

The viral post has garnered more than 60,000 likes, but not all the comments are positive.

What about all the cheese graters that are tapered? (Like most of them) and what happens to the work surface which the other side of the grater is demolishing? Bullshit, they're not meant to be used like this, it just works on this particular one!

Stupid idea. You'll end up scratching your worktop.

Of course, not all cheese graters work this way, but it's a good trick to know!
