Did You Know

How To Protect Your Home From Ghosts and Spirits

I never believed in ghosts or spirits. I just didn't think they were possible at all. That is, until, I started working my job right out of university. It was a retail store and though it was a new location, it was still haunted. Things would fall off shelves unexplained, lights would flicker, alarms would go off. Though I never actually saw the spirit...I knew it was there.

To think that we are the only beings on this planet or in the universe at all is rather self-centered, don't you think? Who's to say WE aren't the strange visitors?

Ghosts and spirits live all around us, but whether they choose to make themselves known is up to them.

Here are some signs that a spirit or ghost may be within your reach:

  • sudden changes in temperature
  • odd smells
  • something brushing lightly against your skin
  • things that seem to move around on their own

Spirits can also make themselves known in dreams. If these types of encounters make you uneasy, or you feel a bad vibe from potential spirits around you, there are some ways you can protect yourselves from ghosts and spirits.

Continue on the next page to find out ways you can protect you and your family from unwanted spiritual encounters.

Horseshoes

Hanging horseshoes outside your door, or outside the room you are concerned about being infiltrated by spirits. Folklore from the 16th century tells us horseshoes ward off witches, in addition to bringing luck to those who are within their sight.

Garlic

Yes, we all know garlic helps ward off vampires. But it also helps keep dangerous spirits away from your body. According to Ancient Egyptian and European history, laying wreaths of garlic helps protect children from murderous spirits. Hanging garlic over the door will help protect your home from unwanted spirits.

Meditation

Practicing daily meditation can help you become more in touch with your spiritual side. Becoming stronger spiritually can help prevent other spirits from finding their ways into your life.

Mezuzah

A mezuzah is a piece of parchment containing verses from the Torah, the Jewish scriptures. When it is attached to a door, the mezuzah protects the people within from unwanted spirits and ghosts. The mezuzah is of biblical origin, as well, with the words being determined from the book of Deuteronomy.

"And you shall inscribe them on the doorposts (mezuot) of our house and on your gates" (Deuteronomy 6:9, 11:20)

Rosemary

It's not only a delicious herb for your pork. Rosemary has also been used to repel evil spirits since the times of Ancient Greece. Keeping a sprig in your pocket, hanging a wreath on your door, or burning the spice at a shrine can keep your house clear of spirits.

Mirror

This one is rather simple. If you keep a mirror in each room facing the doorway, spirits will not enter. Seeing their own reflection will scare them away.

If you feel like a ghost is near you, there are ways you can get rid of it.

  • Envision a protective white light around you
  • Yell at the ghost and tell it to leave. Be assertive, and keep yelling until it finally leaves.
  • Go into a church and pray for protection against evil spirits.
