Bullying has always been an issue, but it seems to be one that is becoming even more prevalent and vicious. There are many reasons why this may be so, but one very possible cause is that parents aren't teaching their children how to treat others or disciplining them when they act unkindly.
One Southern father is seeking to change that, at least in his own home.
When Bryan Thornhill found out his son was bullying other kids on the school bus, he decided to teach him a lesson. His unique form of discipline has quickly gone viral.
"Hey everyone, welcome to "˜You Better Listen to Your Dad 2018,'" Bryan started a video he posted on Facebook.
The video, taken from his car, shows his 10-year-old son running in the rain on the side of the road with his backpack on.
Bryan explained what was going on:
"My son has finally got in trouble on the bus enough to where he was kicked off the bus for three days because he was being a little bully, which I do not tolerate, can't stand. Therefore, he has to now run to school.
"We're right about one mile from the school so all week he's got the experience of running."
Bryan wasn't about to tolerate this kind of behavior from his son. He was going to nip the problem right in the bud.
"This right here is called parenting," he said.
"We're gonna make sure that one way or another his teachers are gonna be able to enjoy his company at school "“ he's not disrupting his classmates and everything else," Bryan said.
And it seems this form of parenting is working! Bryan said his son's attitude had been "much better" and his "teachers have approved of his behavior this week."
"He hasn't got in trouble at school this week [whereas] last week he was absolutely out of his mind," Bryan noted.
Some people have called out Bryan's punishment for being cruel and humiliating, but he insists he's just doing his job and even encouraged other parents to follow his lead.
"Teach your kids. Don't be a friend, be a parent," he said. "That's what children need these days."
