Press your tongue against the roof of your mouth when you have a brain freeze!

This may not be the most effective way to stop brain freeze, but it's the one that we use, and it works for us. Each and every person's body emits heat, and when you place your thumb on the roof of your mouth you are warming your palate.

If you keep you eyes wide open and avoid blinking you will prevent crying.

Blinking rapidly can help you quickly clear away any initial tears so they don't start rolling down your face. Alternatively, if you feel a cry coming on, open your eyes as wide as they will go - this could help to cut off the tears before they even start.

Place your hands on something stable if you start feeling dizzy.

The fluids in your ear are responsible for your balance and things like alcohol can upset their equilibrium. If you start feeling dizzy, place your hands on something solid and stable, like a tabletop, to help your brain recalibrate your balance.  If you're in bed and still feeling dizzy, place one of your feet on the ground. This will help your brain recalculate your position.

If you're in a noisy place, have people talk to your right side.

Research shows that the right ear is better at picking up words and speech. The left ear is better at picking up music and other sounds.

If you are about to start gagging, tuck your thumb in your fist and grip it tightly.

Back in 2008, a study found that by pressing a point on their palm, people who had a sensitive trigger point for the gag reflex could actually move back their trigger point further in the throat. In other words, clenching their left fist made participants less likely to gag. So if you're ever in a situation where something is setting off your gag reflex, just form a fist with your left hand, squeezing your thumb.

Blow on your thumb to lower your heart rate.

Blocking your air passage with your thumb then exhaling activates your vagus nerve, which is spread throughout your body. Research shows that stimulating your vagus nerve can decrease your heart rate and blood pressure, making you feel more relaxed. Who knew a little unconventional science could do the trick?

Eat marshmallows to soothe a sore throat.

Although there's no hard evidence that it works, sap from the marshmallow plant has been used for hundreds of years"”usually in tea form"”to treat coughs, colds, and sore throats.

According to anecdotal reports, modern-day marshmallows can help ease sore throat pain, possibly because the gelatin coats and soothes.

"It's not the wackiest thing in the world," Dr. Linder says. "If your throat is really swollen and it really hurts to swallow anything, I can see how something slippery and sweet like marshmallows might provide some relief."

Put your hands in ice water and flex them if you have a migraine.

While your hands are submerged, repeatedly open and close your fists. This works on the same principle as an ice pack on your head - the cold narrows your dilated blood vessels.

Put deodorant on a mosquito bite to stop the itching.

Although laughing at inappropriate times can be embarrassing, it's actually a natural reaction for some people when they're facing a highly stressful situation. Pinch yourself. The slight pain will distract you from your urge to laugh.

Turn the water to cold at the end of your shower to prevent acne.

If you are having trouble falling asleep, blink fast for a minute.

What happens when you run fast for 10 minutes? You feel the burn in your legs. That's lactic acid building up in your muscles due to Contraction and relaxation which helps you run. In short your muscles get tired. Same things happens with blinking eye rapidly. When you blink eyes, the muscles accompanying blinking get tired. So with your muscles exhausted, it helps you to fall asleep faster.

If you're feeling sleepy, hold your breath for as long as you can and then release it.

Keep an onion near you at night if you have a stuffy nose.
