Jon Gosselin Wins Custody After Kate's Big Courtroom Mistake

Jon and Kate Gosselin are still in the news, despite their show getting canceled years ago. The argumentative former couple have continued to have a war of words in the public eye, mostly surrounding their kids.

The couple, who share eight kids together, made headlines when it was announced that their son Collin had been "sent away" from the family, and Jon was not made aware of Collin's move.

"I have an idea where he is but I don't really know where he is," Jon told Entertainment Tonight at the time. "[Kate] says that Collin is in a special school for special needs kids with behavioral problems. I mean, I ask but she doesn't tell me. She doesn't answer any of my texts."

Kate never publicly stated where Collin went, only that he was "getting the help he needed." But even on holidays and special events, Collin was nowhere to be found. It started to raise concerns from fans, wondering where on earth the sextuplet was.

Jon admitted that something about Collin was different, but he didn't think the kid needed to be sent away for it.

"I could see my kids getting annoyed with that because he's the smartest and he does this, and he does that, and he always wants it his way," he said. "He's very particular, which could be bothersome. But, he's very loving too. He was a cuddly kid as a baby."

Slowly, it seemed like Hannah, another one of the sextuplets, was moving more and more towards living with her dad full time. She appeared on his Instagram account frequently, and rarely appeared on Kate's anymore. Then, Collin began appearing on Jon's social media as well, and people got suspicious.

It was finally revealed that Jon had filed for sole custody of Collin, though it was unclear what the status was with Hannah. The 14-year-old boy will be released from his in-patient facility soon, and Jon wants to make sure that Collin comes back to the best possible environment, which according to him, is not with Kate. He believes it's in Collin's best interest to live with him and Hannah.

The court date was set for Tuesday, December 4th, and was slated to deal with the custody issue as well as other matters. However, a day before, Kate asked that the date be postponed to accommodate her schedule, but the court denied her request.

Instead of showing up at the scheduled time, Kate and her lawyer decided not to show up at all. This poor judgement call led to Jon winning his custody request.

"Jon won sole physical and sole legal custody of Collin," a source told Us Weekly. "All other matters were moved to a future court date."

This is a big deal for Jon, as he has not had regular custody of any of his kids since he and Kate split. Hannah has been living with him for almost a year, but it doesn't appear that there is an official custody order in place.

We're happy that Jon was able to win his case in court, and shocked that Kate would not show up for such an important date.

Donna loves spending time in front of the TV catching up on dramas, but in the summer you'll find her in the garden.
