Country music fans are mourning the sudden death of singer Justin Carter, after he was fatally injured in an on-set accident while taping a new music video.

Carter, 35, had just recently signed a deal with Triple Treat Management, and was preparing for a 10-state concert tour while filming a video in Houston, Texas last weekend.

His mother, Cindy McClellan, told Fox News that Carter was killed when a gun in his pocket "went off and caught my son in the corner of his eye." The weapon was reportedly being used as a prop in the video.

"He was a wonderful artist," she said. "He was the voice, he was the total package and we're trying to keep his legend [alive]."

She remembered her son as a "wonderful person" who was "very loving and he loved God very much," revealing that he kept multiple Bibles at his home and one in his pickup truck.

Carter's first single on iTunes, "Love Affair," had only been released earlier this month. Triple Threat announced plans to debut more of Carter's music, with the proceeds going to his family.

The singer's family have set up a fundraiser to cover the costs of his funeral. While Carter served in the U.S. Army, his relatives say it's unclear if he qualifies for a military burial.

Carter is survived by two young daughters, Dixie and Kaylee.
