Kat Von D Welcomes First Child And His Name Is Spelled Backwards

2018 has turned out to be a big year for L.A. Ink star-turned-makeup mogul Kat Von D.

After multiple failed relationships, including a year-long romance with Sandra Bullock's philandering ex-husband Jesse James that ended in a broken engagement, Von D got another chance at love after meeting her current husband, Rafael "Leafar Seyer" Reyes.

The couple met in 2016 when Reyes asked Von D to appear in a music video for one of his songs.

The tattoo artist, whose real name is Katherine von Drachenberg, married Reyes in a civil ceremony in February, just one week after he proposed. They threw a Gothic-themed reception later in June.

Just three months after their nuptials, the pair announced that they were expecting their first child together and that it was a boy.

On December 2, Von D took to Instagram to announce that she and Reyes have finally welcomed their bundle of joy.

In the caption of a photo of Reyes, 43, holding the newborn, the first-time mom thanked her family, friends, and fans for being patient leading up to the announcement of the baby's "long awaited arrival."

Von D and her husband named their son Leafar Von D Reyes. The first name is seemingly after his father's stage name, which is "Rafael" spelled backwards.

The new mom also revealed her and Reyes' plans for the first few weeks as new parents.

"To be honest, my husband and I want to take the next 40 days [the 4th trimester] to focus on the baby and our amazing relationship transitioning into amazing parenthood," Von D, 36, wrote. "So, please excuse us if we're not on here as much for a little while."

"Just know we love you all and thank you for all the words of love+support!" she added.

The family has not shared any other details about little Leafar's arrival, but Von D has previously explained that she intends on "raising a vegan child without vaccinations."

During the first two days of Leafar's life, his blood sugar count had been low, and as much as I had committed myself to strictly breastfeed, my milk hadn't come in yet. The pediatrician suggested asking around to see if any friends might have a bit of extra milk they could donate - and if not, I'd have to consider supplementing with formula - something we personally did not want to do. I called my beloved midwife, @losangelesmidwife to see if she knew anyone who might be willing to share a bit of their breastmilk who was on a plant-based diet, as that was crucial to us, and she quickly connected me with @mattersofmotherhood who, without even knowing me, and without question, stepped up and donated a few ounces to us in the middle of the night. Needless to say, Leafar's levels boosted, and we are now happily breastfeeding at home. Can't thank @mattersofmotherhood enough for getting us through those rough nights with your donation. This is true community. True sisterhood. True kindness. And I can't wait to pay it forward one day soon. 🖤 ***UPDATE: just to address a few misconceptions about my caption. First, I'm not shaming anyone who chooses to use formula. Just like I would never shame anyone for the food they ate or anything for that matter. So, please don't shame me for sharing our personal approach to nursing. Second, I did not starve my baby for his first two days of life. I'm not mad at ya'all who attacked me about it -because clearly you may not be familiar with how breast feeding works and that's ok! I wasn't either until I got pregnant! :) but for the first 2.5 days my breasts were producing colostrum (not the same thing as milk) and it's absolutely normal for mom's milk not to come in until day 5 sometimes. With that being said, my little one just needed to get through one night's worth of feedings with supplemented donors milk. And I'm happy to report my milk came in shortly after that! So thanks for all the love and support everyone! Let's keep it positive! ***

"If you don't know what it's like to have the entire world openly criticize, judge, throw uninformed opinions, and curse you "” try being an openly pregnant vegan on Instagram, having a natural, drug-free home birth in water with a midwife and doula, who has the intention of raising a vegan child, without vaccinations," she wrote in an Instagram that has since been deleted.

Of course, Von D's comments were met with quite the backlash, but it's unclear if the criticism has affected her decision at all.

Congratulations to the new parents!
