Kate Middleton Gave The Queen The Sweetest Homemade Christmas Gift

Unlike Suits actress and Prince Harry's fiance Meghan Markle, Kate wasn't invited to join in on the Christmas festivities back when she was engaged to Prince William.

So while Kate did not have to worry about giving the Queen a gift that year, she did eventually get married into the royal family, and wanted to do something special for the monarch one Christmas.

Last Christmas, the Duchess of Cambridge decided to do something extra special for her grandmother-in-law. Kate knew she had to think of out the box if she wanted to impress a "woman who has everything."

"I thought back to what I would give my own grandparents," Kate explained to Harper's Bazaar UK. "I thought 'I'll make her something, which could have gone horribly wrong.'"

She went through with her plan anyway, and it turned out to be quite a  success.

So what did the Duchess gift the the Queen?

Just like the average person when picking out a gift for an in-law, Kate admitted that she "was slightly worried about it. However, the Queen seemed to have loved the thoughtful homemade gift.

"I noticed the next day that it was on the table," she told the magazine.

Turns out, Kate gifted the Queen a "marrow chutney" made with her beloved grandmother's recipe.

"I think such a simple gesture went such a long way for me and I've noticed since she's done that on lots of occasions and I think it just shows her thoughtfulness, really, and her care in looking after everybody," Kate explained.

Well, it looks like Meghan will have some big shoes to fill in when she celebrates Christmas with Harry, the Queen, and the rest of the royal family members.

Beside the gift, she will be taking part in some interesting traditions, including a Christmas Eve tea, exchanging gag gifts, multiple church services, a black-tie dinner, and playing charades.

We look forward to hearing what Kate and Meghan will give the Queen this year.
