A coroner's report on the death of The Young & the Restless star Kristoff St. John has delivered one final twist in the sad saga of the late actor.

St. John was reportedly found dead at his home in San Fernando Valley, California last month by a friend who was sent to check on him.

While police and paramedics responded to his home, St. John was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 52.

Although many of St. John's close friends and colleagues spoke out about his public struggles with depression and suicidal thoughts after his death, it was ruled an "accident" in the coroner's report.

The official ruling is that St. John's death was caused by a combination of an accidental alcohol overdose and "hypertrophic heart disease."

The disease causes unusually thick heart muscles, which in turn make it difficult for the body to pump the blood it needs. The condition is known for being underdiagnosed because it presents very few symptoms.

Police who responded to St. John's home called the emergency a "possible alcohol overdose," but his cause of death was deferred until an autopsy and "additional investigation" were completed.

St. John's ex-wife, Mia, urged his fans to seek help for their own mental health problems following the actor's death.

"Never be ashamed because every one of us suffers from some mental health issue," she said.

St. John posted this status during his recovery from a suicidal episode in 2017.

Today's news came as Y&R announced a second tribute to the actor will air next month.

Past stars of the soap opera including Shemar Moore and Victoria Rowell will reprise their roles for a week-long plot line honoring St. John's life and his role of Neil Winters on the long-running show.
