If you've followed the Duggar family though their hit TV shows 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On, then you'll remember that Josiah Duggar and his wife Lauren were married less than a year ago.

As with all Duggar marriages, fans began to speculate the couple would be welcoming a baby very soon after tying the knot.

But in a heartbreaking sneak peak at the new season of Counting On, the pair shared some devastating news.

In the new preview (which you can watch on People's website), Josiah and Lauren reveal she suffered a miscarriage last October, just four months into their marriage.

"Lauren and I were actually preparing for a trip to go to a friend's wedding," Josiah, 22, remembered. "She started feeling really sick and started noticing some different things."

Lauren, 19, said that she "wasn't feeling well" on that fateful day, as tears welled up in her eyes.

"I was cramping really, really bad, which was quite strange because I normally don't. I was thinking maybe I had something that had gluten in it. It was late at night and I went to use the restroom and there was the baby. Gone. I couldn't believe it and I was hoping it wasn't true."

Josiah said that coping with the loss was difficult, not just for Lauren and himself but also for their families.

"And all the dreams of getting to see our little one and hold it in our hands dashed before our eyes," he said.

The pair said they chose to open up about what Lauren called "the worst day" of her life because "nobody really talks about it."

"We just wanted to let y'all know that you're not alone," Lauren told fans who had lived through the same painful experience.

The miscarriage was even more painful because the couple were still basking in the glow form their wedding last June. At the time, Josiah told People that he was drawn to Lauren's "Christ like character and tender heart toward others."

"She bring sunshine into the room and encourages everyone around her. It's always stood out to me that in every situation, she looks for the one who appears to be sad or lonely and quickly can brighten their day by sharing words of hope, an encouraging scripture, a prayer or even a simple smile with them."
