A new study done by the University of Texas has concluded that drinking two cups of coffee a day can reduce a man's chance of getting erectile dysfunction by around 42%.
This is good news for men. Although we don't hear about this condition often because it is looked at as a private and sometimes embarrassing condition, 18.4% of men who are older than 20 suffer from ED in the US. This means that more than 18 million men are affected throughout the country.
We have often heard that coffee usually has the opposite effect because it narrows blood vessels. This reduces the blood flow to the man’s penis, but from this study, we now know side effect is mild, and only temporary.
In the study, 3,724 men were studied. They were asked about their caffeine consumption and whether they suffered from erectile dysfunction or not, among other things.
They also specified what kind of caffeine they consumed, (energy drinks, coffee, tea.) They then found that the men who consumed between 85mg and 170mg per day were 42% less likely to have erectile dysfunction than those who had no caffeine intake.
They then found that there is a reason for this. They believe this result could stem from the fact that caffeine is a vasodilator, which means it improves blood flow. So when drinking a cup of coffee, it triggers relaxation throughout the body, including in the penis. The increased blood flow to the penis reduces the chance of erectile dysfunction.
If you or your loved one suffers from erectile dysfunction, or even the thought of it terrifies you, try adding a couple cups of coffee to your day, the affects could be life changing!
