12 Ways To Use Plastic Wrap That'll Transform Your Life

Plastic wrap is used for more than just preventing spillage or covering things to put in your fridge.

Like many household items, they can be used for unlikely purposes that will save you hundreds of dollars every year.

1. Traps Fruit Flies

A handful of fruit flies are manageable to live with, but once their numbers start growing, they'll wreak havoc in your life.

Before you spend your hard-earned money on hiring an exterminator, try this fruit fly hack using plastic wrap.

Mix vinegar and a few drops of dish soap in a bowl, then cover it with one layer of plastic wrap. Cut a small hole and your home will be fruit fly-free in no time!

2. Prevents Freezer Burn

If you've ever wondered why you love buying ice cream rather than eating the delicious tub you have at home, the answer is simple.

Simply throwing your ice cream in the freezer will cause ice crystals to form on the top.

To keep your ice cream as creamy as could be, place a layer of plastic wrap on the top of the tub and then place your lid before you throw it in the freezer.

3. Waterproofs Your Phone

Nowadays, most smartphones cost hundreds of dollars, so it's a good idea that you take care of yours.

Most of us have a lightweight case, but not something that's waterproof. These fancy cases can usually cost upwards of $30.

If you need to temporarily waterproof your phone, use plastic wrap. What I love about this hack is that you can still use your phone while it's wrapped.

4. Unclogs Toilets

We all encounter a clogged toilet at least a few times a year. A simple problem like this can definitely ruin your day, but not anymore!

If you don't have a plunger or just don't want to use it, cover your toilet bowl with plastic wrap to flush out the blockage.

The trick here is this: while you flush the toilet, push down on the plastic wrap.

5. Perfect For Travel

Plastic wrap will help to compress your clothes together, making your small luggage much more spacious than it actually is.

Another great plastic wrap hack to know when you travel is to cover the tops of your bottles to prevent the liquid from spilling in your bag.

That extra layer of protection will save you a lot of hassle and make your vacation much more enjoyable.

6. Keeps Bananas Fresh Longer

If your bananas turn into mush or are covered with brown spots only a few days after you buy them, plastic wrap is the cheapest solution to save your fruit.

Covering the tops of your bananas with plastic wrap will slow down the ripening process and keep them fresh longer.

7. Cover Your Mixer

Baking is fun, but the mess that comes with it isn't.

If your mixer doesn't come with a shield, plastic wrap the bowl so that ingredients don't fly all over your kitchen.

Plastic wrap is also great to keep the top of your food processor clean. That way you have one less thing to clean at the end of the day!

8. Great For Planting New Seeds

For me, gardening feels like magic. You're basically helping to create new life, but when the seed doesn't grow, it can be very discouraging.

Covering the pot where your new seed lies with plastic wrap will prevent the moisture level of the soil from fluctuating.

9. Adds Creativity To Artistic Work

Whether you're a painter or just painting your nails, plastic wrap can come in handy.

My favorite beauty hack is using plastic wrap to get a marbled manicure. All you have to do is paint your nails a base color, and then crumple a small piece of plastic wrap and put it on your nail for a few seconds.

The results are gorgeous!

You can also do the same thing on your paintings to add that same marbled effect.

10. Makes Handles Easier To Hold

If you're suffering from blisters, eczema, or rashes on your hand, holding certain objects can aggravate your condition.

Covering handles with plastic wrap will create a nice cushion for your hand.

11. Keeps Cut Flowers Fresh Longer

This hack is similar to the banana one mentioned above.

Wrapping plastic wrap on the ends of your fresh cut flowers will help them stay alive longer.

I do this hack every Mother's Day and my flowers usually last for a month!

12. Keeps Your Home Mess-Free

Plastic wrap is the cheapest solution to keep your home clean.

Say you're painting your bathroom, you can plastic wrap the toilet to prevent paint from ruining your toilet or the corners of your counter.
