Like every grandparent, Prince Charles has been ecstatic about the news of his son Prince Harry and Meghan Markle expecting their first child next spring.
Along with the pregnancy announcement, Kensington Palace revealed that the Prince of Wales is "delighted" about becoming a grandfather for the fourth time.
However, now that the initial excitement has fizzled out a bit, Charles is voicing his concerns for his upcoming grandchild, as well as those who are already here.
The 69-year-old has had some time to think about the world in which his grandchildren, including Prince William and Kate Middleton's kids - Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte - will be growing up in and he's very worried.
Charles opened up about his fears while at a meeting plastic pollution in Ghana during his and Camilla's nine-day trip to West Africa.
"I am about to have another grandchild actually. I suspect quite a few of you may too have grandchildren or will do soon," he said, according to The Telegraph. "It does seem to me insanity if we are going to bequeath this completely polluted, damaged and destroyed world to them."
The royal, who is a known environmentalist, added that "All grandchildren deserve a better future."
Charles admitted that a "good start has been made" in reducing plastic waste that has polluted the earth and its oceans, but there still remains work to be done.
"The matter of plastic debris in the environment, in particular the ocean, is now on the agenda," he continued. "We do, however, need to keep it there as the amount of plastic entering the ocean every year is, unbelievably, set to get worse rather than better. We cannot, indeed must not, allow this situation to continue."
"A solution is achievable and simply has to be done for all our sakes "“ and, above all, for the long-term viability of all those species in the sea which are already suffering unbearably because of our actions," he added.
This meeting is one of several occasions during which the prince has brought up the fact that his youngest son is going to be a father.
Last month, while on a tour of Royal Lochnagar, a whiskey distillery in Scotland, Charles admitted that he toasted the to the happy news "several times."
In 2013, after the birth of his first grandson George, Charles planted dozens of trees at his arboretum in the future King's honor.
"As I get older, all I really long for is to plant trees," Charles said at the time. "I hope it will be quite amusing for George, as they grow up, and he grows up."
It's unclear if the doting grandfather did the same for his remaining grandkids, but if he did, it would be no surprise at all as he cares greatly for both nature and his grandchildren.
