Princess Charlotte Is Off To Nursery School In January

While it may seem like just yesterday that the youngest royal was being brought home from the hospital, it's time that she starts to follow in her big brother's footsteps.

The two-year-old princess will begin to attend a London nursery next month, her parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge revealed.

William and Kate, who is pregnant with the couple's third child, will send the toddler to Willcocks Nursery School, located near their home of Kensington Palace. Based in a church hall, the school is located next door to London's Royal Albert Hall, which is very close to the family home.

"They chose that nursery because they thought it would be an ideal first step for Charlotte's education and they were impressed by the team who work there," a royal source shared.

Following in Prince George's footsteps, who also started school at 2 1/2, the princess will attend a different school than George did two years ago.

Prince George started at a Montessori school a short drive from the family's home. Unlike George who started his school career on a part-time basis, young Charlotte will be receiving full-time care.

This much-sought after nursery school will have the young girl enjoying pottery and poetry.

But not without the heavy price tag.

The princess will be invited with her parents for a first short 'stay and play'. Then Will and Kate will be asked to leave and see if Charlotte will be happy to be left alone.

"As your child builds a rapport with the teachers, we will ask you to stay in the vicinity for the first few sessions so that you can return if needed," the school recommends.

Fees are just over $4,000 for the morning lesson and $2,400 for the afternoon for each term. With three-terms costing close to $20,000 annually.

The school is off for the holidays and will resume on January 4 with the 32 youngsters that will be attending the morning class five days a week for three hours.

Children at the school will experience "a fun and structured morning with lots of free play where children embark on the first stages of learning to read, write and to understand simple numbers with the minimum of pressure," the website describes.

Charlotte may be enrolled in just the afternoon program, which is less structured but provides a similar range of activities.

The school has been described as one of the best London nurseries.

"We know describing a good school in Kensington as a 'hidden gem' is an oxymoron, but the Willcocks Nursery is just that," said society magazine Tatler.

Prince George recently started school at Thomas's Battersea, an independent fee-paying school in South London.

With two kids off to school, it will give the family some time to adjust to their new addition expected in the spring.

"We are delighted that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have chosen the Willcocks Nursery School for Princess Charlotte. We look forward to welcoming Charlotte to our nursery in January," a school spokeperson said.
