Steve Harvey Changed His Iconic Look - Now Fans Are Divided

NBC

Love him or hate him, with the huge amount TV shows Steve Harvey appears on, there's bound to be at least one that you like.

Whether it's his daytime talk show Steve, his hit game show Family Feud, or his adorable reality shows like Little Big Shots, Harvey has the charm and comedy chops to host them all.

And the one thing that remains the same between all of those different TV projects is Harvey's appearance: the host is never spotted without a sharp suit, a shaved head, and his signature black mustache.

Except, Harvey actually debuted a completely different look on Ellen this week.

Fans may have been confused when Harvey stepped on stage with a salt and pepper beard, since Harvey has sported his mustache since way back when he was starring on The Steve Harvey Show.

Naturally, the big change came up in Harvey's chat with DeGeneres, and he revealed why he finally embraced a more natural color.

"I was on vacation," Harvey explained, "and I actually left my Just for Men at home - because I had been dying my mustache."

"So the rest of it started growing in. Next thing I knew, I went, 'Damn! This is either going to be sexy or I'm ugly as hell' - one of the two."

The deciding vote on the issue went to Harvey's wife, Marjorie, who encouraged him to keep the more natural style.

And while the grey hair definitely ages Harvey, he says, "Old is the goal."

"This has made me 82% smarter," he quipped about his new facial hair. "I know more now."

But photos of Harvey's beard are dividing his fans on social media, and a poll set up by the host didn't help to settle whether it should stay or go, it just attracted plenty of "haters."

"They just don't like nothing," Harvey complained.

"One dude said, 'You look old.' I said, "˜Wait a minute. I've been living more than half a century... plus a decade, plus two more damn years. Dog, I am old!'"

Harvey, a father of seven and a grandfather to five, was also candid with DeGeneres about the downsides of being "Grandpa Steve."

"I'm not as happy as most grandparents are," he said. "I don't really get it."

"My wife is really into this grandparent thing, so she lets them stay over at the house," he shared. "And I told her, 'That's not how this is supposed to work.' They're supposed to come over, then go home."

Even if he's not that enthusiastic about chasing after his grandkids, at least Harvey looks the part now.
