Hunters (Prime Video)
Amazon takes a strange approach with its streaming content. Some content gets huge marketing campaigns and tons of press. The Boys and The Man In The High Castle are great examples of this. And yet, other shows that should be really big go under the radar.
One such show is Hunters, which should be better-known considering its great cinematography, incredible cast, and brilliant plotting. Dark (Netflix)
Dark has made waves as a compelling sci-fi series. However, if you are averse to subtitles or dubbing, you have probably given it a pass. This is a mistake. Dark is one of the most intriguing shows I’ve ever seen, with a deep dive into the subject of time, and the psychology of a cast of complex characters.
Its final season wrapped up this year, so you can watch from start to finish whenever you're ready.
Drag Race Holland (Wow Presents+)
If you’re a fan of Emmy-winning Rupaul’s Drag Race, you should give Drag Race Holland a watch. With the franchise spreading out into the rest of the world, we are getting entirely different takes on drag. Chances are, if you've decided to skip it, it’s because you're unsure if Drag Race will flow with subtitles.
The subtitles do present a challenge, especially since Wow Presents+ seems to have done a quick and sloppy job with them. However, you get used to it and, to be honest, don’t always need to understand the words to know what’s going on.
Dutch drag queens are cerebral in a very particular way. The makeup is incredible as well, and there is some good drama between interesting queens.
There is still plenty to watch on streaming services, as some very good shows inevitably fly under the radar. Before going back to what you know, try to give yourself some broader experience. It will be worth it.
