The first season of a show sets the tone for the rest of the series. For reality singing competition The Voice, after its successful first season many knew it'd be raking in the ratings for years to come, and it's all thanks to contestants like Beverly McClellan.

McClellan first caught America's attention when she performed a powerful cover of "Piece of My Heart" for judges Adam Levine, Christina Augilera, CeeLo Green and Blake Shelton.

From then on, the strong vocalist wowed week after week, and although she wasn't crowned winner, she made it into the final four as part of Team Christina.

"I feel like I'm waking up in a dream every day and I don't ever want it to go away because it's the best ever," McClellan told People at the time. "I just want to keep shooting for the moon."

Like many of the hopefuls who appear on talent shows, McClellan was not able to have her breakout, but she still continued to perform and follow her passion.

McClellan had to recently put music on the back burner after getting diagnosed with stage 3c Endometrial cancer earlier this year. The disease had spread to her bladder, colon and intestines.

A few months later, an update revealed that McClellan was hoping to release an album and embark on "The Living Room" tour after recovery.

"Beverly has mentioned multiple times that a great album and "˜The Living Room' tour is coming out of this experience "” she has lots of material coming from this journey and it's only the beginning," the page said in June.

Unfortunately, the treatments were not successful and on October 30, her family confirmed through a GoFundMe page, which was set up to fund her treatment, that she had lost the battle.

"It is with great sadness I have to share the news that we lost Beverly today. She was a wonderful, funny, complicated, and incredibly talented young woman who touched millions with her voice and her huge heart. I am honored to have been her manager and her friend. Please keep her spirit alive by sharing her music and all the wonderful memories you have of her."

The Blast reported that McClellan was surrounded by her family, friends and partner Monique Vasquez.

As soon as news of the singer's passing broke, tributes started pouring in on Twitter. Nakia, who competed alongside McClellan on The Voice expressed her heartbreak over the loss.

"I am absolutely heartbroken," he wrote. "Truly a unique soul with a beautiful heart, full of passion & an amazing talent."

Our hearts go out to McClellan's family and friends. May she rest in peace.
