Furniture placement is the easiest way to make sure your living space looks comfortable and put together. You don't have to have expensive furniture to have a nice looking living room. The placement of your furniture can make or break a living space. With it being the easiest design asset to tackle, make sure it's done right.

Here's a list of do's and don'ts to make your furniture look perfect.

Don't: Fence anyone in with furniture. No one wants to feel like they have to do gymnastics just to get around your furniture and sit down.

Do: Create a clear path from the front door to the sitting area, so your guests can sit down easily. The standard suggestion is 30 inches of walk-through space between pieces of furniture.

Don't: Leave anyone out of the conversation in your living space.

Do: Ensure all furniture is facing each other in a way that is easy for conversation to be had throughout the room.

Don't: Make it hard for guests to put down drinks.

Do: Have a table in arms length of every seat so your guests don't have to be holding their drinks all night.

Don't: Feel pressured to have your sofa up against a wall.

Do: Have furniture away from doors or windows to keep things airy. If the couch feels too out of place, consider having a rug underneath all furniture to tie it all together.

Don't: Block hallways.

Do: Move any furniture away from hallways to create a path between them, to avoid directly blocking them.

Don't: Point your furniture away from a focal point of the room.

Do: Angle all furniture towards a focal point, such as, a window or painting.

Having a warm, inviting space in your home doesn't have to take a lot of time or money. Follow these simple do's and don'ts to have a perfect living room set-up.
