Watch: Mom Battling Alzheimer's Becomes Herself Again When She Sings

It can be so painful to watch our parents get older. Seeing the people who cared for us lose their energy and watching their personalities change through the years. When they suffer from a debilitating disease like Alzheimer's, it makes the process so much worse. It takes a lot of courage to share the painful experience of caring for someone who doesn't recognize you anymore, which is why Brian Rididngs' story is so impressive. His mother Kelly Ridings is 88 now, and living in a care home in Dalton, Georgia. While Brian says he misses the mother he once knew, they still bond through their love of music.

<amp-img src="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/05/Brian-Ridings-en-moeder.jpg" srcset="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/05/Brian-Ridings-en-moeder_GH_content_550px.jpg 550w" sizes="89vw" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img>
Telegraaf

In a video Ridings uploaded to YouTube, he and his mother perform a duet of "Dreaming of a Little Cabin" by Albert E. Brumley. Music is a great way to connect with Alzheimer's patients because it seems to connect with them no matter how advanced their condition is.

In the video description, Brian writes that his mom "can still play and sing better than anyone in my eyes.

"I realized while I was singing with her tonight, I had never videod us singing together, so I captured a couple of songs for posterity. Most days I miss her, but she always comes back to me when we sing."

In less than a week, Brian's very sweet video has been viewed tens of thousands of times, which shows how touching it is but also how great their duet sounds.

<amp-youtube height="9" width="16" layout="responsive" data-videoid="siM00J2dvKg"></amp-youtube>

Brian jokes that his mom "always makes up for my half" of the song, but they both actually have a pretty great singing voice.

Over the past few days, Ridings has shared more performances on his YouTube page, which is a great way of saving these special moments with his mom and also sharing them with the world.

If they take requests, we hope they cover a Glen Campbell song, because it would be a great tribute to a country musician who also has Alzheimer's.

Share this beautiful video with someone you know!
