1. Ombré Waffles

This one is pretty simple & perfect for kids! All it takes is some Bisquick and food coloring. You can also use the homemade waffle batter from our smore waffles in number 6 below.

  • waffle batter
  • 1 color of food coloring (we prefer gel)

Prepare the Bisquick (or other waffle batter) as per the directions on the box. Separate the batter into 4 bowls and color it using the gel food coloring. You want the batter to be different shades of the same color, so you'll add the most food coloring to the first dish and less to each of the following. The darkest color will go around the outside of the waffle so you'll need slightly more batter in the darkest bowl and the least amount of the batter in the lightest bowl.

We prefer gel food coloring since it tends to be more pigmented.

Scoop the batter into piping bags or the corners of ziplock bags. Once the waffle iron is heated, take the darkest color and draw a circle around the outside of the waffle iron.

Take the next shade and work your way into the center of the waffle iron. Shut the lid and cook. Dress the waffle with the toppings of your choice.

Tip: Try using red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple (starting with red on the outside). When you cut the waffle in half you get two rainbows that kids will love. Use whipped cream to create clouds.
