Ocala Police Department

It is a scary time to be a child.

Ocala Police Department were investigating a shocking stabbing incident yesterday that involved juveniles.

One juvenile suspect was taken into custody while the other was airlifted to a nearby hospital.

Ocala Police Department responded to a 911 call at an apartment complex at around 4:20 pm on Monday, January 28.

"Units are currently on scene at Berkeley Point Apartments working a stabbing investigation involving juveniles," the Ocala Police Department confirmed on Facebook.

Upon arrival it was discovered that a 5-year-old victim had received multiple stab wounds inside the apartment . At that time there was no sign of a suspect. The victim was allegedly alert and able to communicate with authorities when they found her, according to Ocala Star Banner.

The victim, who was stabbed multiple times, was flown to University of Florida Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

The mother of the two juveniles left her children in the apartment alone. She needed to check the mail and wanted to get them some candy from a neighbor. When she returned home she saw her 9-year-old boy stabbing his 5-year-old sister with a kitchen knife. She ran to the young girl asking her son what he was doing. The young boy ran away and the mother called the police. The arrest report says officers were able to find the 9-year-old boy hiding in a maintenance shed in the complex.

The knife was recovered in the hallway.

The boy, whose name is not being released due to his age, was interviewed by Detective Robert Brown on Monday at the OPD after Brown had received permission from the child’s mother for an interview, according to Ocala Star Banner. The juvenile said he stabbed his sister in the back. Asked why he stabbed her, the child said he wanted to kill her, and the thought had entered his head two days before, according to an arrest affidavit. The boy is quoted as having said he wanted his sister to “die, die”.

He said he was unable to get the thought out of his head. He is being held without bail.

The boy was arrested Monday on a charge of attempted first-degree murder.

The judge in this case has ordered secure detention for the child and a psychiatric evaluation.

No parent or guardian was present for the child, his next court date is Feb. 5.
