97-Year-Old Twin Froze To Death While Trying To Save Her Sister

Martha Williams and her sister Jean Haley were found by police at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning laying in the driveway outside of their Rhode Island Home.

Tragically, the 97-year-old twin sisters froze to death after having slipped on the icy driveway the night before. Williams was discovered face down next to her vehicle, while her sister Jean was found in the garage.

Police report that the twins died after they fell outside Haley's home. The overnight temperatures plummeted to as low as 11 degrees with wind chills as low as minus eight.

Investigators think that Martha fell while getting out of her car, and Haley tripped over a rug on her way to phone for help.

The twins had just returned home from dinner on Friday night with their 89-year-old sister. Sometime, before the women fell, the younger sister had left to return home.

Although the cause of death has not been determined, investigators believe that no foul play was involved and that the extreme cold temperatures may have been a factor.

No one knows what could have been going through their minds in those final moments, but at the very least, they were together in the end.
