Ariel Winter can't seem to catch a social media break. The 21-year-old Modern Family actress is constantly attacked online for the way she looks, whether it's her weight, her curves, or even the way her face has changed since she was a kid.
Obviously, as people get older, their bodies change. It's just science. For Winter, she's been in the spotlight since she was 10 years old, so of course she's going to look different now than she did when Modern Family first premiered. But some fans can't seem to grasp the concept that perhaps she's just growing up, and hasn't actually had plastic surgery.
Winter posted a series of pictures on Instagram, marking her best friend's birthday, and some people felt the need to point out how different she looks.
"So young and so much plastic surgery...such a shame," one person wrote.
"[...] I see someone who changed their appearance dramatically and deduced that this originates from some kind of unhappiness of the way she looked before. This saddens me," another person said.
"Nothing wrote with being honest and telling her we liked her better before 'the change' she was so beautiful before she started chopping up her body and if me saying so helps one gurl [sic] out there to feel beautiful who's thinking of [plastic surgery] then its [sic] worth it," a commenter expressed.
Winter decided to respond to that last commenter, acknowledging that he may have been trying to help, but it didn't really work.
"I appreciate you wanting to help girls love themselves the way they are, but you are also kind of cutting someone (me) down which isn't what I think you were trying to do?" the actress wrote. "I also didn't get plastic surgery. That is also not being supportive of women if you're just assuming something about the way they look."
Luckily, other people came to the defense of Winter as well.
"For all those saying this doesn't look like her," a Facebook user wrote. "She's been in the spot light since she was a kid and now she's a young woman in her early 20s, a time in a woman's life when her body and face change a lot. Of course it doesn't look like her, she's still growing into who she's going to look like. jeez."
"This whole thing is ridiculous," another person said. "When she was curvier she was criticized for being "fat." Now that she's thinner, people are telling her she's "too thin" and saying she probably had plastic surgery. This poor girl- either way she can't win! Her body, her business."
It's sad that Winter has to deal with these types of comments at the age of 21. She's still young and she's clearly enjoying her life, so why do people have to be so negative when it comes to how she looks? Even if she did get plastic surgery, and I believe her when she says she didn't, it's no one else's business to judge.
