Want Some Chapulines? Baseball Fans Are Bugging Out Over Toasted Grasshoppers

<div><p>If you visit Safeco Field to watch the Seattle Mariners baseball team this season, don't be surprised to see lines of fans waiting to try the stadium's latest snack.</p><p>Pretzels, peanuts and hot dogs have all become classic ballpark food, but a surprising new dish is challenging them. </p><p>At the stadium's Poquitos Mexican restaurant, fans can order a bowl of chapulines with spicy cayenne or chili-lime flavor. Chapulines are crunchy, salty and delicious, but they're definitely not for picky eaters.</p><div><amp-instagram height="1" width="1" layout="responsive" data-captioned="" data-shortcode="BS2f8yHBLuL"></amp-instagram></div><p><!-- [invalid-shortcode] --></p><p></p><p>Chapulines are toasted <strong>grasshoppers</strong>, a delicacy from <a href="https://www.shared.com/throw-a-guilt-free-pizza-party-for-cinco-de-mayo-with-this-delicious-skinny-mexican-pizza/" target="_blank">Mexico</a>'s Oaxaca region that's making lots of new fans in Seattle. </p><p>The Mariners sold 13 pounds of grasshoppers to more than 300 brave customers at their home game and the demand has only gone up since then.</p><p>The stadium has actually had to increase their order for the season to keep up with demand. It could be the thrill of trying something new, or maybe just the fact that a bowl of chapulines is only $4 - that's 50 cents less than a hot dog.</p><p>It turns out bugs are the cheapest source of meat to raise. They're also <a href="https://www.shared.com/this-new-health-diet-trend-will-make-you-gag/" target="_blank">rich in protein</a>.
