13 Comedians Who Are Laughing Their Way To The Top Of The Highest-Paid List

We all know people with great sense of humor, and can crack a funny joke or two on any given day.

But not many people have what it takes to turn their ability to make a room laugh into a lucrative career.

Humor is a coveted trait, and this is why we love celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres, Jim Carrey, and Jerry Seinfeld.

Comedy comes naturally to them, and even on our low days, they're able to make us laugh our heads off long enough to forget our problems.

These beloved humorists are not only loved by many, they also cash in a lot of money for using their talents to keep us entertained.

Ellen DeGeneres

It really does pay to be funny, just ask Ellen. The talk show host started out as a stand-up comedian, booking gigs at local cafes and bars.

In the 80s, she started to perform nationally, and was subsequently named Showtime's "funniest person."

She eventually made it into Hollywood and landed her own sitcoms Ellen and The Ellen Show, before hosting her own daytime talk show The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2013.

She also has a number of business ventures, as well as a large real estate portfolio.

Now, her total net worth is estimated to be around $400 million.

Surprisingly, she still didn't cut the top 10.

Steve Harvey

Steve is hilarious just as much as he's inspirational. Before getting his big break as an MC on Showtime at the Apollo in the 80s, the funnyman was homeless and living out of his car.

"It was so disheartening," Harvey recalls. "A week is really the maximum you can do. This was three years! It was rock bottom. But even in my darkest days I had faith it would turn around."

It took a while, but Steve got his life together and he has been since been a force to be reckoned with in the entertainment world.

DELUX

He left stand-up comedy behind to star in his own self-titled sitcom in the 90s.

These days, he's a movie star, TV and radio host, author of multiple self-help books, five-time Emmy winner, owner of a production company, and a co-founder of a non-profit organization.

Thanks to his business ventures, Steve reportedly has a net worth totaling over $100 million.

Jimmy Fallon

When Jimmy took over The Tonight Show in 2014 his popularity increased and so did his salary.

His first big break came when he was hired by Saturday Night Live. After leaving SNL, Jimmy had a short-lived acting career before landing his own show, Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, in 2009.

On top of being an Emmy Award-winning TV host, Jimmy is now also an author with five books under his belt. He also released two comedy albums, and earned a Grammy Award for the most recent one titled Blow Your Pants Off.

The late-night host went from being a college dropout earning $7.50 per set doing stand-up comedy in Los Angeles, to making around $16 million a year now.

You were probably thinking "that's a lot of money" looking at these figures, but believe it or not, these comedians haven't even made nearly as much as those who cracked the top 10 list.

Let's see where the rest of your favorite comedians rank!

Dunham is no stranger to being on this list, he's one of the few comedians that didn't necessarily need Netflix's help to rake in extra cash.
