Miley Cyrus Asks People To Not 'Make Things Awkward' As She Starts Dating

Miley Cyrus may be recently divorced, but that doesn't mean she's wallowing around at home. The 26-year-old singer and her movie-star husband, Liam Hemsworth, split after less than a year of marriage in August.

“Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time,” a rep for Cyrus told PEOPLE in a statement at the time. “Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”

Since then, Hemsworth has been fairly quiet, while Cyrus has been living her best life. Weeks after the split, she was spotted with Kaitlynn Carter, the ex-girlfriend of MTV star Brody Jenner. The pair was vacationing together, making out, and holding hands while out with each other.

That relationship ended pretty quick, but now Cyrus is dating Australian singer, 22-year-old Cody Simpson. Cyrus and Simpson have been friends for a long time, and they've been spotted out on a few dates and kissing. Cyrus even posted a picture of Simpson on her Instagram story.

“22. Australian (my type). Abs,” she captioned the shot. “Hot Girl Fall .”

Sources confirmed that the couple was together, saying they were flirty all night.

“They walked in holding hands and looked around a bit, but then started to get pretty comfortable and were not shy about showing their affection towards each other at all,” the eyewitness told Us. “They were both standing at first, flirting and kissing. Then they came and sat down. Miley got up and sat on Cody’s lap and started making out with him. [Cody's] name was called at the counter, and he grabbed his smoothie bowl, and they left together holding hands.”

Cyrus also called out the pictures of her kissing Simpson that were taken by paparazzi on Instagram.

“Can a girl not get a açaí bowl and a morning makeout session in peace?” she wrote. “Lol sneaky ass.”

But it seems like she had more to say, as Cyrus then went on to post a lengthy statement on Twitter about how people are reacting to her new dating life.

"1. I know the public feels invested in my past relationship because they felt like they saw it thru from the beginning," Cyrus began. "I think that's why people have always felt so entitled over my life and how I live it because they've watched be grow up....but I am grown now and make choices as an adult knowing the truth/details/reality. People only "know" what they see on the internet."

"2. Men (especially successful ones) are RARELY slut shamed," she pointed out. "They move on from one beautiful young woman to the next MOST times without consequence. They are usually referenced as "legends," "heart throbs," "G," "Ladies Man," etc.....where women are called sluts/whores ! I am trying to just THRIVE/survive in a "man" world....if we can't beat em, join em! If our president can "gram em by the p***y...." can't I just have a kiss and açaí bowl?!?!"

"3. I refuse to recluse and "date" from home cause A. That's not fun B. Extremely uncomfortable/puts me in a vulnerable position," Cyrus continued. "I would like to share an activity with someone I am dating and not be stuck at home with pretty much nothing to do but 'Netflix and chill.'"

"4. This "dating" thing is new to me too," she concluded. "I've never been an "adult"/grown ass woman experiencing this....I was in a committed relationship for almost All my teens and early 20s ; with the exception of a few breaks, which usually in those times I was working my ass off with not much R&R....and "meeting/trusting" people in my position is really tuff [sic]. Don't f***ing pity me, not what I'm asking for. I have a great life I wouldn't trade for "privacy" but PLEASE don't make this awkward for me! I am trying to make light and like always MAKE FUN of myself/and the public's perception of me! Get used to me dating - this is where I am at! #HotGirlFall."

When you think about it. Cyrus is right. Though she has a reputation as a party girl, Cyrus has really only publicly been with Hemsworth. Dating isn't really a part of her life, or at least not until now. For her to want privacy is totally legitimate, although when you're famous and making out with another famous person in a public space...how much privacy can you expect?
