Mom Mortified After Daycare Writes Notes On Her Son's Stomach

Facebook/Fox News

A mom in Florida is looking for answers after she picked up her son from daycare, and noticed the workers had written on his stomach using marker. Heather Chisum, a single mom of two, picked up her kids Milo and Fin from daycare, The Children's Education Center of The Islands, and when she went to change Milo's diaper later on, she saw the message scribbled on his stomach saying that he needed more diapers at daycare.

Chisum took to Facebook to share her story, and also get a feel for whether or not she was overreacting.

So. I need opinions. Am I right to be furious about this? Or am I over reacting? I really need your opinions guys, because I’m about to barge in this daycare tomorrow morning and have some words.

Everyday when I pick Fin and Milo up from daycare they put a daily report paper in Milos lunch box. It says what mood he was in for the day, what times they changed his diapers, and if he needs diapers or wipes.

I’m a single mom with a full time job and two very young children. SUE ME FOR NOT READING THE REPORT EVERY SINGLE DAY.

I guess yesterday they wrote on his report that he needs diapers, and I failed to see that. Now keep in mind, I see several teachers at drop off and several at pick up, if I failed to see that he needs diapers a simple, “Hey Heather, your son needs diapers maybe you missed the report” would have done the trick. From any of the many teachers there I see daily.

But instead, I change his diaper this afternoon AND SEE THIS WRITTEN ON MY SON WITH MARKER. You can’t even see all of it in the pic.. it says,” Mom I’m out of diapers pls read my report”. I’ve scrubbed it with several baby wipes and it’s not coming off. I had plans to take them to the beach to play, and now I can’t because my son has writing all over him.In the very worst case scenario, I can’t see anything other than “need diapers” needing to be written. Why a big long message needed to be written across my sons stomach is beyond me.

OR WRITE IT ON HIS DIAPER OR YA KNOW, JUST TELL ME?!?

The best part???? THIS ISNT THE FIRST TIME. They’ve done this several months ago too.

Help. Am I over exaggerating? Give it to me straight people.

Most people were on Chisum's side, but some were saying it was her own fault for not providing the school with diapers for her son. She didn't take too kindly to that notion.

UPDATE: For all of these mothers coming after me and saying I’m negligent, I’m human and I missed a report. ONE. For everyone saying, “I wonder how many times they had to tell her, they did this to get her attention” THATS NOT THE CASE. I missed one report, I wasn’t being hounded over and over to bring diapers and I just kept ignoring them. I missed the report and this woman’s next course of action was to write across my entire sons torso. Like I said, this was the next course of action OVER a phone call, verbal warning, text, or email. And the first time this happened, SAME STORY. I have extra packs of diapers in my closet for crying out loud.

Fox News also picked up the story, and Chisum shared that she was most upset about the placement of the message.

“I was mainly upset it was written so far down his torso that his diaper comes above it, so that's upsetting to me that he was naked when he was written on," said Chisum.

Chisum posted another update after her story garnered more attention, but this time she wanted to address those saying she was putting her own needs before those of her children. Some accused Chisum of spending the money on herself, not her kids, which is why she couldn't provide diapers.

Im overwhelmed with the amount of attention this has received. People and news stations from all over the country reaching out to me to offer their condolences and support. I want to say I’m thankful for all of you ❤️

However, I’ve seen several people now saying comments such as “ she has plenty of money to spend on makeup she could have gotten diapers” and I’m BLOWN AWAY that somehow all of these people have gotten copies of my bank statements to make statements so bold as I buy makeup over buying my children diapers. All based on my featured pictures showing me wearing makeup (I’m assuming that’s where they are jumping to this conclusion).

So let me put this out there,I have NEVER and will never put my needs before my children’s. No one knows my finances, or what I spend my money on, and it’s NONE of any ones business.I HAVE EXTRA PACKS OF DIAPERS IN MY CLOSET! The issue was never not having money for diapers or not having diapers to bring them.People are also saying “serves her right, I wonder how many times she was told to bring diapers before they resorted to this”1st- never okay to write on an infant2nd- I was NEVER hounded about it and I wasn’t just being neglectful and not bringing diapers.

As I stated in my post, I never received a phone call, texts, email, or any verbal cue I was even running low. This daycare has never had to beg me to bring diapers. Whenever I’m made aware I bring them immediately. So to answer everyone’s concern “I wonder how many times she had to be told” The answer is once. I was told once through a daily report that I missed because I’m a human and sometimes I miss things.

After the post went viral, the daycare publicly addressed the incident and called it a "breach of professional ethics."

We are aware of the incident at the school, and we are terribly sorry for the distress it has caused the family involved as well as all of our families. It was a breach of our professional ethics on the part of the teacher. The school has taken immediate action to remove the teacher from the school. We are reviewing protocols already in place to ensure that nothing like this occurs again. We are proud of our school, love our students, and are eager to make our school a better place as we move forward.

I know that I would be fuming if I saw that my son's teachers had written all over him, all because I missed reading a report the day before. I think I might even go as far as to press charges.

What would you do if this happened to you?

Donna loves spending time in front of the TV catching up on dramas, but in the summer you'll find her in the garden.
