Grieving Parents Walked Out Of A Comedy Show After Ricky Gervais Told This Disgusting Joke

It's been a difficult year for Suzi Gourley, and this week hasn't made it any easier. In July her son Eli was stillborn, and since then Suzi and her husband Ryan have barely left their house.

On Tuesday, the couple thought they would take their mind off their troubles and see comedian Ricky Gervais perform in Belfast, but the night didn't go as they planned.

Partway through the show Gourley was shocked to hear the comic make a joke about a dead baby, and had to leave the theater with her husband.

<amp-img src="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/Gervo2-1.png" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img>
Suzi Gourley

Gourley says she had heard of Gervais, but never seen his comedy before. Even so, she wouldn't have expected a joke like this "in a million years from anybody."

"I just think, 'Why? What is the need?'' she told Belfast Live. "This is our life - we have no choice but to live with this. I know people take things differently and I know our emotions are raw, but why joke about a baby being dead? It's just wrong."

Gervais, who has pushed the envelope in the past, says he's not sorry for the joke, and took things a step further on Twitter. After tweeting that he should be able to joke about anything, Gervais seemed to criticize Gourley for being too sensitive.

<amp-twitter height="472" width="375" layout="responsive" data-tweetid="847394970419970050"></amp-twitter>

<amp-twitter height="472" width="375" layout="responsive" data-tweetid="847454849251786752"></amp-twitter>

Many of the comedians fans say that Gourley and her husband are just too sensitive, but she doesn't think that's a good excuse to joke about such a sensitive topic.

"Some people might read this and think we're over sensitive and maybe we are," she says, "but it's just not funny."

When asked what she would tell Gervais if she could, Gourley answered "Please, please consider your audience. Bereaved parents are 1 in 4. There's no way I was the only one sitting there last night that that didn't strike a nerve with."

Are there some things you just shouldn't joke about?
