Two children in Chickasha, Oklahoma, were removed from their parent's custody after police officers discovered the horrifying conditions the children were living in. Police originally had responded to calls about a toddler wandering near Highway US 62, a very busy road, while crying. The three-year-old kept telling everyone that she wanted to go home, but officers were having a hard time establishing where her home was.

When Jazzmine Bennett and Darien Jeffers approached the officers, they explained that the little girl was theirs. They had left her and their one-year-old child at home while they went to get something to eat. At that, police insisted they check on the other child. What they found inside, led to the immediate removal of the children and the arrest of the couple. The one-year-old was standing inside of a crib, shaking and screaming in a diaper so dirty, it was leaking.

The crib was pockmarked in spots of feces and rotting food, and even had rodent droppings in it. When they were unable to find a clean diaper, the officer began to bathe the baby in the sink and was horrified when some of the child's skin began to fall off. The two children have since been placed in protective custody, and Bennett and Jeffers have been charged with neglect and child endangerment.
