Kelsey Grammer Opens Up About Finding Happiness After Years Of Personal Tragedy

They say you must walk in someone's shoes to truly understand what they're going through.

The Frasier actor probably wouldn't wish that on his worst enemy.

Kelsey Grammer's early life was marked by a series of unfortunate events that shaped the rest of his life.

"Every one of us is going to experience some terrible loss," he once said. "I just got a big dose. For every story you hear that's tragic, there's another that's equally tragic or more so. I think you come to look at it as part of life."

The 63-year-old actor has spent years trying to cope with these personal tragedies, but it has proven to be very difficult.

Now decades later, Grammer seems to have finally found a glimmer of happiness.

The Tragedies That Shaped His Life

When Grammer was a toddler, his parents divorced, which forced him to be raised by his grandparents.

After they died, Grammer moved back in with his father, who was killed in a home invasion when he was only 13 years old.

Then in 1975, Grammer's younger sister Karen was abducted, raped, beaten and stabbed to death after a botched robbery when she was 18 years old.

He found out about her tragic death a week after she went missing.

Despite forgiving his sister's murderers, these tragic events have taken a toll on Grammer's life.

"I miss her," he said about his sister. "I miss her in my bones. She was my best friend and the best person I knew. She had so much to live for."

Finding Joy

The father of seven says it's his kids that have brought a considerable amount of joy in his life.

He currently has three children under the age of six, and says they in particular have made a positive impact.

"It's fantastic, the energy is magnificent," the actor recently told Closer Weekly. "I'm as young as they are. [And my wife Kayte Walsh] has a pristine and extraordinary ability to love. She loves being pregnant and being a mom."

"My youngest son James is walking and talking and eating all the time," he continued. "And my four-year-old Gabriel is starting to figure out stuff. They discover things every day. It's wonderful."

Just because Grammer is spending more time being a dad, it doesn't mean he has officially retired from Hollywood.

Frasier has also brought "an enormous amount of success" and "an enormous amount of satisfaction" for the actor.

"The number of people that come up to me are never aggressive or unhappy. They're always smiling and thankful and grateful for the work."

I'm so happy he has finally found some peace. No one deserves that much pain in their life.
