The Jacket Melania Trump Wore While Visiting Migrant Children Has People Furious

There is no denying that Melania Trump is one of the most fashionable First Ladies the United States has ever seen.

Whether it's her viral pink Delpozo dress, her $900 sparkly Christian Louboutin heels or her $51,000 Dolce & Gabbana coat, she's always making a statement with her outfits.

This week, Melania is back in the headlines for her wardrobe choice during a trip to McAllen, Texas to visit an immigrant children's shelter.

The FLOTUS made a surprise visit to U.S.-Mexico border following President Trump's decision to sign an executive order that would stop migrant children from being separated from their families while at the border.

Mrs. Trump spent over an hour with the children at the Upbring New Hope Children's Shelter, many of whom were unaccompanied minors from Guatemala. She reportedly wished the children "Good luck," before making her way back to the White House.

The mother-of-one took many aback over Father's Day weekend when she released a statement addressing the administration's immigration policy.

"Mrs. Trump hates to see children separated from their families," read the statement. "[She] hopes both sides of the aisle can finally come together to achieve successful immigration reform. She believes we need to be a country that follows all laws, but also a country that governs with heart."

While some praised her for caring about the welfare of the minors, there were many others that were furious over her choice to wear an olive green jacket that read: "I really don't care. Do u?" in bold white graffiti-style writing.

Melania was pictured wearing the $39 Zara jacket when she boarded Air Force One, and it instantly triggered a media frenzy.

People all over social media were quick to criticize the first lady for donning a "tone deaf" jacket.

"Let's just talk facts. Melania Trump flies to Texas to meet with immigrant children separated from their parents. Good for her. She wears a jacket that says "I really don't care."  This is tone deaf at best. Why would anyone wear a jacket that says "I don't care" any time?" tweeted Tony Schwartz, CEO of The Energy Project.

One user wondered why nobody asked if it was a good idea for Melania to dress up in such a controversial piece of clothing, especially during the current political climate.

"The tone deafness here is mind blowing. Whether it was intentional or not is irrelevant - that nobody stopped to say "is this a good idea?" or worse, that they just didn't care...it's astonishing."

Raging Topics

Others believe that the decision to wear a jacket with such a bold message, especially while it's sweltering hot, wasn't a mistake, it was done intentionally to send a message.

"Being in a position to wear any jacket in the entire world, and she chooses this one... on this day. There is no hidden message, she's right, the message is in bold print, front and center."

The target of the message is still unclear, but there are a few people, including the President himself, who are convinced that she meant it for the "fake news" media.

"'I REALLY DON'T CARE, DO U?' written on the back of Melania's jacket, refers to the Fake News Media. Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!" the president tweeted.

But the president's explanation differs from the one Melania's communications director, Stephanie Grisham, provided.

"It's a jacket. There was no hidden message," Grisham said in a statement. "After today's important visit to Texas, I hope the media isn't going to choose to focus on her wardrobe (Much like her high heels last year)."

In a second tweet, she wrote: "Today's visit w the children in Texas impacted @flotus greatly. If media would spend their time & energy on her actions & efforts to help kids "“ rather than speculate & focus on her wardrobe "“ we could get so much accomplished on behalf of children. #SheCares #ItsJustAJacket."

Despite all the controversy that erupted, Melania was spotted wearing the jacket again while deplaning at Andrews Air Force Base.
