If you live anywhere near a major city, odds are you pay five cents at the register for a plastic bag from the grocery store.

That is, if your city hasn't already banned plastic bags altogether.

This week, Anchorage, Alaska became the most recent city to ban plastic bags from retail and grocery stores.

Supporters say the ban will help reduce litter, and encourage shoppers to bring their own reusable bags. Stores will even be forced to charge 50 cents for paper bags under the new law.
