Rob Lowe and his family were among the hundreds of thousands of people affected by the devastation of the California wildfires. For the past two weeks, the destruction has forced over 200,000 residents to evacuate from their home to find safety and shelter elsewhere.

Dubbed the Thomas Fire, it has has scorched 270,000 acres of land, and more than 1,000 buildings. 18,000 structures are still at risk, CNN reports.

It's California's third-largest fire since the state began keeping records in 1932, and authorities estimate it will only be contained by January 7, 2017.

Early Sunday morning, Lowe took to Instagram and posted a picture of the fiery blaze encompassing the whole sky from his front lawn. He wrote: Our house aprox 7:30 am today. Pray for Santa Barbara."

Luckily for Lowe, despite the fire creeping towards his Santa Barbara home, firefighters were able to keep the flames at bay.

Lowe got dressed in full firefighting gear and helped the fire crew hose down the flames.

He shared a picture on Instagram and captioned it: "You do what you can, but when it's time.. you GO."

With his neighborhood safe, Lowe showed his gratitude to the firefighters, by inviting them to dinner at his house.

He also shared another picture of the firemen eating burgers, salad, and spaghetti in his kitchen.

"Dinner for new friends at our house," he wrote.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by the Thomas Fire.
