Montgomery County Sheriff's Office

On August 24, a surveillance tape caught footage of a half-naked woman ringing several different doorbells in the middle of the night, wearing broken shackles.

Although she approached numerous homes, the mysterious woman disappeared before anyone could answer the door.

However, when residents in the Sunrise Ranch area of Montgomery, Texas saw the video, they were stunned.

"The look on her face, but she was being very very quiet... she just looked distressed," one neighbor who saw the footage told ABC News.

Fortunately on August 30, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office announced they have identified the 32-year-old woman, but would not reveal her identity as she is a victim of domestic abuse.

They were however able to confirm her safety.

Law enforcement explained a friend of the woman's boyfriend, 49, received a text message, which prompted authorities to conduct a welfare check.

They went to a home on Sunrise Pines around 11 a.m., but they arrived too late.

The man - who had threatened to commit suicide - was dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police then found a suicide note that linked him to the woman.

"The male did leave a suicide note to help identify the female and some of the circumstances about why this occurred," Montgomery Co. Deputy Scott Spencer said.

Although the woman garnered national attention, authorities said she was not a missing person, but are still searching for more details.

"There's some issues obviously with the video surveillance, why she was wearing those restraints and the circumstances surrounding it. We only have one side of a story right now," Spencer said.

A neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said the man worked as a boat retailer and only moved to the area a couple of months ago.

"Come home late, leave early. And I've seen him do garage work, woodwork and other than that, I mean, I've never talked to him, I've never seen him talk to anyone around here," they told Eyewitness News.

The neighbor also said his family had never seen the woman before she appeared on the news.

While details are scarce, deputies are able to confirm the woman is now back with her family in Dallas.
