Steve Irwin's Family Is Returning To "Animal Planet"

It has been over 20 years since Animal Planet aired The Crocodile Hunter, which made Steve Irwin a household name. Now more than a decade since Steve's untimely death, his family is getting ready to return to the network that started it all for them.

The network announced that Steve's widow, Terri, and their children Bindi and Robert are going to be carrying on his legacy with new television projects.

"Steve Irwin was a champion for all wildlife and he and Terri's excitement and enthusiasm brought viewers from around the world in touch with nature," Patrice Andrews, general manager of Animal Planet, said in a press release. "Their passion for animals, love for their family, and leadership in conservation awareness left a strong legacy that continues today. We are thrilled to have Terri, Bindi, and Robert back in the Animal Planet family."

The family has continued their father's passion of preservation and as outspoken activists. Terri has been active in the support of the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve in Cape York, while their children have not shied away from the spotlight.

Bindi won the Mirrorball Trophy on Dancing with the Stars in 2015, and Robert hosted the Discovery Kids series Wild But True and has made several appearances on The Tonight Show.

It was Bindi who teased on her Instagram that something big was happening for their family.

The Crocodile Hunter introduced a new form of wildlife documentary and gained popularity around the world thanks to Steve's animated character, and love of animals.

The world was shocked and saddened when Steve was killed by a stingray's barb after it pierced his heart in 2006.

In spite of their grief, the family has found a way to honor the man that did so much for them and the wildlife he came into contact with.

"Crikey! So excited to announce that we are officially returning to @AnimalPlanet next year! We love the @DiscoveryChannel family 💙" she wrote in the caption of a video that featured the 19-year-old, her mom and her 13-year-old brother sharing their news.

"Watch out for next year," Bindi said in the clip. "We have wonderful new adventures coming to your television screen."

"We're excited to be returning home to Animal Planet and our Discovery Communications family. We look forward to the year ahead as we embark on new projects and adventures with Animal Planet," Terri said.

"It all started in 1996 with The Crocodile Hunter, and now the Irwin family is back!'" Terri said in the video.

We can't wait to see what they have in store for us!
