Teen Surprises His Doritos-Obsessed Friend With A "Cheesy" Promposal

The trend of elaborate "promposals," where teenagers go to extreme lengths to ask each other to their high school dance, is cute but a little excessive.

It's just a dance after all, and in the past people seemed perfectly happy to say "yes" without all of the pageantry and extra planning kids use today.

Then again, every so often we get to see a really cute video like this one from Newton, Kansas and it changes our minds. High school senior Shaedon Wedel didn't do anything unnecessary when asking out his prom date, he just made a really sweet gesture.

<amp-facebook data-href="https://www.facebook.com/shaedon.wedel/videos/1278084295639988" layout="responsive" height="600" width="640"></amp-facebook>

The lucky girl he's handing the flowers and Doritos to is Carlie Wittman, a freshman at his school who has Down Syndrome.

Carlie's brother Carson is Shaedon's best friend, and they originally planned to go to the dance as a trio. When Carson found a date, Shaedon kept his promise to Carlie and asked her out.

Because she loves Doritos, he made sure to include them in his proposal, wearing a shirt that says "I know I'm NACHO your typical Dorito but... I'm going to be CHEESY and ask: will you go to prom with me?"

<amp-twitter height="472" width="375" layout="responsive" data-tweetid="842879689693773824"></amp-twitter>

Carlie was obviously overjoyed and said yes. The pair are definitely a happy couple, because Shaedon has nothing but nice things to say about his date.

"Knowing her for seven years now, she's brought nothing but joy to my life," he told KWCH12. "Anyone who's ever around her, she makes them laugh, she always has a smile on her face. She's amazing."

Shaedon's been getting a lot of publicity after a video of his proposal was shared online, but he says this gesture comes straight from the heart.

"I didn't do it for the publicity and stuff, I did it to make her happy," he says. "She deserves a lot."

Share this touching video with someone you know!
