<div><p>Everyone knows what a crying baby sounds like. We've heard it at the grocery store checkout line, in crowded doctor's offices, and maybe in our own houses. </p><p>You also may have heard a parrot mimic human speech. It's marvelous! </p><p><a href="https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/experts-parrots-mimic/">Michael Schindlinger</a>, assistant professor of biology at Lesley University, says that birds talk like humans for a variety of reasons. One of the biggest is "To better command the attention of a potential listener by producing sounds for which the listener already has a memory."</p><p>In other words, the sly parrots know exactly how to best attract attention from their human owners, and they will do whatever it takes. </p><p>This woman filmed her parrot making a strange noise, and it sounds eerily similar to a baby wailing. We can't even tell the difference.
