Tom Hanks Shares Update After Coronavirus Diagnosis

The world feels like it's spiralling out of control thanks to the coronavirus, or COVID-19. The virus is spreading quickly across the globe, shutting down schools, airports, and even Disney. While the virus may not be that dangerous for those who are in good health, the immunocompromised are understandably fearful of what could happen should they contract it.

It's easy to think of COVID-19 as something that's happening everywhere else but here, but as the days go on, it's becoming more clear that the need for self-quarantine and increased hand-washing is definite. The virus does not discriminate. It doesn't matter who you are, you could be susceptible.

Take, for example, Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson. The iconic Hollywood couple sent shockwaves across the internet after announcing that while in Australia, they had contracted COVID-19. Hanks posted about their illness on Instagram.

Hello, folks. @ritawilson and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.

Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?We’ll keep the world posted and updated.

Take care of yourselves!

Hanx!

The internet absolutely lost their minds when they heard that Hanks and Wilson, two of the most beloved people in Hollywood, were victims of what is now considered a national emergency. However, Hanks and Wilson's son, Chet Hanks, posted a video saying that his parents were doing just fine."

“It’s true, my parents got coronavirus," he said in his video. "Crazy. They’re both down in Australia right now ’cause my dad was shooting a movie down there. But I just got off the phone with them, they both are fine, they’re not even that sick, they’re not worried about it, they’re not tripping. But they’re going through the necessary health precautions obviously. But I don’t think it’s anything to be too worried about. I appreciate everyone’s concern and the well-wishes but I think it’s all gonna be all right. But I appreciate it and just everybody stay safe out there. Much love.”

Hanks himself also posted a follow-up update about his condition on Instagram after such an outpouring of support.

"Hello folks. @ritawilson and I want to thank everyone here Down Under who are taking such good care of us," he wrote on Instagram. "We have Covid-19 and are in isolation so we do not spread it to anyone else. There are those for whom it could lead to a very serious illness. We are taking it one-day-at-a-time. There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no? Remember, despite all the current events, there is no crying in baseball. Hanx"

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are lucky to be in general good health and have access to health care, but not everyone could be as blessed. It's important to wash your hands, sanitize your phones, and practice social distancing whenever possible.
