Vets Explain Why You Shouldn't Let Your Dogs Dress Up

It started out as a fad but now pet owners around the world love to dress up their four-legged friends.

Whether you dress them for style or comfort we all do it. A survey by a UK pet insurance firm found as many as 81% of owners have bought clothes for their dogs.cons

But now vets and animal welfare groups are warning about the dangers of dressing up your pooch. Putting your dog in a cute outfit can cause them to overheat, or give them a number of skin conditions.

It can seem hard to believe if you live somewhere cold, but vets say that dogs can regulate their temperature perfectly well with just their fur.

Mark Johnston, from the British Small Animal Veterinary Association, says that "dressing them in a coat diminishes the animal's ability to regulate their own body temperature, and could be detrimental if the animal gets too hot."

While skin diseases may not seem like a big deal, it's a very common problem for dogs. It can also make your pet pretty uncomfortable, so it's best to be careful.

This is definitely fun for us, and we get to enjoy lots of cute pictures, but maybe we should be more considerate of our animals and how we treat them.
