Florida Sheriff Has To Issue A Bizarre Warning To Residents: "Stop Shooting At Irma"

ABC News

Florida might have the "Stand Your Ground" law, but it is safe to assume that it doesn't apply to Hurricane Irma. This is one of those situations where pointing a gun at something is going to have absolutely zero effect on the outcome.

A Facebook event had been created by some Florida locals, inviting residents to meet on the beach to fire off their weapons at Hurricane Irma in defiance of the destruction she is bringing to the American south-east coast. By Sunday night, the event had garnered the interest of 54,000 Florida residents.

This event has got the Pasco Sheriff's office concerned. They have been warning residents not to do this. Not only is it dangerous to head down to the beach as a hurricane bears down on you, the bullets fired wildly up into the air post their own danger, they are going to come back. Imagine what would happen to a bullet fired up into a storm that has winds blowing 150 miles-per-hour. They are going to come down somewhere, and once they enter the swirling cauldron of destruction, that somewhere could literally be anywhere.

The Pasco Sheriff Office put out this message on Twitter; "To clarify, DO NOT shoot weapons @ #Irma. You won't make it turn around & it will have very dangerous side effects."

With everything that Americans in the southern states are dealing with, between Harvey, Irma, and even the possibility of getting hit by Hurricane Jose as it follows in Irma's wake, having an innocent person getting struck by a random bullet fired up into the storm seems like something that can, and should be avoided at all costs.
