How One Mom Packing Raisins In Her Kid's Lunch Turned Into A Viral Debate

If someone tells you parenting is fun and easy, they either don't have kids or they're not right in the head.

Parenting, though rewarding, is the hardest thing you'll ever do. You stress 24/7 about your kids safety, health, and overall well-being. But there's really only so much you can control.

One thing parents are worried about is nutrition. There's a steady rise in obesity so it's a challenge to make sure your kids are learning healthy food choices.

One mom in Australia got a rude awakening when the healthy lunch she packed her kid was sent home with an extremely condescending note about her "unacceptable" food choices. But there was a tiny problem. The "unacceptable" choice was sultanas (golden raisins.) A dried fruit.

<amp-facebook data-href="https://www.facebook.com/ohsobusymum/photos/a.671632916266257.1073741829.645212578908291/1332890286807180/?type=3&theater" layout="responsive" height="600" width="640"></amp-facebook>

And it's not like the rest of the meal was loaded with unhealthy choices, either.

According to "Oh So Busy Mum," "[her friend] sent her child a sandwich roll, two boiled eggs, an orange, kiwi fruit, and a handful of sultanas for lunch."

Sounds pretty healthy, right? Certainly healthier than the lunches I pack for myself. What's even more strange about this whole thing is the note lists dried fruit under the list of acceptable foods to pack, so what's the issue here?

This note just adds to the discussion of whether or not schools and teachers are crossing the line when it comes to policing and shaming parents. Why should they be in charge of what parents can pack? Most parents hold the standpoint of "unless you're going to buy and pack the lunches for me, you don't get to have a say."

<amp-img src="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/05/export-golden-raisins1122.jpg" srcset="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/05/export-golden-raisins1122_GH_content_550px.jpg 550w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/05/export-golden-raisins1122_GH_content_650px.jpg 650w" sizes="89vw" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img>
Sader MC

This story is eerily similar to the mom who was shamed because she sent her daughter to school with a brownie in her lunch.

And of course, parents all over have something to say about it.
<amp-iframe sandbox="allow-scripts allow-same-origin" layout="responsive" frameborder="0" height="9" width="16" src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/comment_embed.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fohsobusymum%2Fphotos%2Fa.671632916266257.1073741829.645212578908291%2F1332890286807180%2F%3Ftype%3D3%26comment_id%3D641875099342450&include_parent=false"></amp-iframe><amp-iframe sandbox="allow-scripts allow-same-origin" layout="responsive" frameborder="0" height="9" width="16" src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/comment_embed.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fohsobusymum%2Fphotos%2Fa.671632916266257.1073741829.645212578908291%2F1332890286807180%2F%3Ftype%3D3%26comment_id%3D129717797600252&include_parent=false"></amp-iframe><amp-iframe sandbox="allow-scripts allow-same-origin" layout="responsive" frameborder="0" height="9" width="16" src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/comment_embed.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fohsobusymum%2Fphotos%2Fa.671632916266257.1073741829.645212578908291%2F1332890286807180%2F%3Ftype%3D3%26comment_id%3D828298120655251&include_parent=false"></amp-iframe><amp-iframe sandbox="allow-scripts allow-same-origin" layout="responsive" frameborder="0" height="9" width="16" src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/comment_embed.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fohsobusymum%2Fphotos%2Fa.671632916266257.1073741829.645212578908291%2F1332890286807180%2F%3Ftype%3D3%26comment_id%3D233392743828388&include_parent=false"></amp-iframe>

<amp-apester-media height="390" data-apester-media-id="592ee2bebe3db6a6300aef3f"></amp-apester-media>
