Popular Hollywood Animal Trainer Under Fire For Abuse

Two months ago, on January 4th, the U.S. Department of Agriculture raided one of Hollywood's top animal training facilities, Birds & Animals Unlimited, following a complaint filed by the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

PETA alleged that the company, whose credits include Game of Thrones, A Dog's Purpose and Harry Potter, had been violating the Animal Welfare Act by not providing adequate medical treatment, proper shelter and nutrition. The complaint stated that the shelter allowed "animals to suffer without licensed veterinary evaluation or care."

<amp-youtube height="9" width="16" layout="responsive" data-videoid="trL-n1h_Ah4"></amp-youtube>

Birds & Animals Unlimited (BAU) quickly issued a response to these claims dubbing them as "exposé." "PETA's images and accompanying text are misleading. The truth about these animals (and all animals at Birds & Animals) is that they are under constant "“ years' long "“ veterinary care, are treated with love and respect, compassion, kindness and all appropriate medical attention even where the more expedient (or financially prudent) approach would be to do otherwise." read the 8-page statement.

If you're wondering who is speaking the truth in this case, then the USDA may have the answer for you in the newly released report.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the USDA has issued a preliminary report in which BAU was only cited for two offences, the failing to provide frequent attention to a pig with overgrown hooves and lameness in its hindquarters and for keeping allowing its German Shepherds to sleep outside without blankets.

BAU's attorney Jonathan Pink told news site that the shelter "has now put into place a system for trimming of hooves with increased frequency." He also reassures those who are concerned about the well-being of the German Shepherds that the dogs were only left without blankets because the material may be swallowed and "can cause intestinal blockage."

Do you agree with PETA or BAU?
