Grandmother's Family Puts Her Gorgeous Quilts On Display At Her Funeral

Margaret Hubl learned to sew because she had to. Looking after 5 kids (3 of her own, 2 from her sister-in-law who passed away) meant there was no end of clothes that needed to be fixed. Eventually, she started to make her family's clothes herself.

Then, she discovered quilting. Hubl loved to spend her afternoons building quilts. She would give one to each of her grandchildren on special occasions like their weddings and high school graduations.

So when Hubl passed away at age 89 last year, her family knew they had to involve the quilts in some way.

<amp-img src="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/02/H.jpg" srcset="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/02/H_GH_content_550px.jpg 550w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/02/H_GH_content_650px.jpg 650w" sizes="89vw" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img>

The idea they settled on was to drape all of Hubl's quilts over the church pews. This clever idea lead the family to discover some things about their grandmother, like just how many quilts she had made over the years.

"Never did I imagine how many there were," Hubl's granddaughter, Christina Tollman, told The Today show. "We covered almost every single pew in that church. I never knew how many she actually made."

They also found out that Hubl had been working ahead. Three quilts had already been made for her grandchildren who aren't married yet.

<amp-img src="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/02/L-2.jpg" srcset="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/02/L-2_GH_content_550px.jpg 550w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/02/L-2_GH_content_650px.jpg 650w" sizes="89vw" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img>

Not only was this a beautiful way to show off all of Hubl's work, it's a way of showing the love she had for her family.

"This is the love that Grandma made for each of us," Tollman said. "This is what she made for each of us to wrap up in when we hurt. When we miss her."

Share this beautiful tribute with someone you know!
