Forty years ago, this woman purchased a decorative plate and hung it above her stove.
The whole family loved the quirky little smile and her children often commented on how much they loved the smile.
Then, 5 years ago, she walked into an art gallery and saw a familiar face hanging on the wall. It turns out that the plate she purchased in the 1970's was actually created by Pablo Picasso!
She decided to bring it to the Antiques Roadshow for an appraisal. While she expected to get a few thousand dollars for the plate, she was certainly surprised to when the appraiser told her it was worth even more!
The plate is called Face in an Oval and it is one of 100 plates in the collection created in 1953 France.
The market for Picasso's work has skyrocketed in the last 15 years. Now her $100 plate is worth anywhere between $10,000 - $15,000 USD!
