Urban Decay Is Discontinuing Their Iconic Naked Palette

After eight long years of creating eye shadow looks that have gotten me more compliments than I can count, Urban Decay decided that it was time for beauty junkies like me to say goodbye to the cult-favorite Naked Palette.

The cosmetics brand announced that their best-selling original eye shadow palette is being discontinued, and the news has broken the hearts of millions of makeup fans all over the world.

The 12-shadow palette, which was launched in 2010, took the beauty world by storm, generating over one billion dollars in sales. Its popularity inspired Urban Decay to release three more versions over the years, including Naked 2, Naked 3, and Naked Heat.

Other makeup brands also followed suit, and released palettes similar to Naked in order to drive their sales higher.

You would think such a revolutionary product would've earned a permanent spot on the shelves, but the company had other plans in mind.

Here's the obituary:

Today, the beauty world mourns Urban Decay's beloved Naked Palette, the product that revolutionized neutral eyeshadows," the statement reads. "A little bit naughty, often dramatic, and always in the press, the innovative game-changer and category creator will be laid to rest after eight years, without a smudge of regret.

Passionate Naked collectors "” and pretty much anyone with eyes "” will remember Naked as the beauty product that changed their lids forever. It was beautiful and mythical and millions of superfans, from misfits to moms to models, will miss Naked from Virgin to Gunmetal.

Wende Zomnir, co-founder of Urban Decay, explained that this was the right move to make albeit bittersweet.

Saying goodbye to Naked is extremely bittersweet. It was a big moment in our history. It's a little painful to leave your past behind, but it's also essential to always evolve. I will forever miss Naked, but we plan to turn the grief into even more greatness. Urban Decay will continue to thrive in Naked's memory and honor"”just wait and see.

Thankfully, the company is giving beauty purists one more chance to purchase one final palette. In honor of its demise, Urban Decay is having a massive sale during which all original Naked Palettes have been marked down to $27 from $54.

You can find them in-stores or on the brand's website,  Sephora.com and ulta.com before they're sold out.

The Naked Basics Eyeshadow Palette has received rave reviews since its launch.

Finally, to bid adieu to the dearly beloved palette, Urban Decay held a funeral in a nude-colored field in Newport Beach, California with help from online influencers like Kandee Johnson and Shayla Mitchell.

Just like a real funeral, a eulogy was expected to be delivered at the end by none other than Nicole Richie.

Don't worry if you couldn't make it to California, the video below is all you need to watch.

The Naked Palette will be truly missed. Have you ever owned one?
