After 14 Years Josh Brolin Opens Up About Diane Lane Domestic Abuse Arrest

2018 has been a big year for actor Josh Brolin.

Although he had been a critically acclaimed actor prior to starring in this year's blockbuster films Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2, he's seen a surge in renewed popularity.

Most recently the No Country For Old Men star revealed on Instagram that he's expecting a daughter with his third wife Katheryn.

"There's a new sheriff in town, and she's no bigger than a sweet potato. Hang on to your hats," Brolin captioned the photos.

According to People Magazine, Brolin claims his stepmother Barbra Streisand is the one most excited for the impending addition to the family, and is already acting like a "typical Jewish grandmother."

"My wife got her a bracelet that said 'Grandma' on it and she started crying," he shared.

"She is one of those ... it's annoying but in a really great way, [with] emails every day and like, 'Hey, I thought of this name, what do you think of that? ... When can I come over and feel the baby,'" Brolin said.

"She is really into it and I love that she is into it. I mean, it's like very typical Jewish grandmother who is saturated by this event. It's awesome," he continued.

However, Brolin's life wasn't always filled with sunshine and rainbows. After 14 years of silence, the soon-to-be father-of-three finally broke his silence on his domestic abuse arrest involving his ex-wife Diane Lane.

"God, I've never been so careful with my words. Ever. Maybe in all 50 years," he said in an interview with The New York Times. "And there's no reason for me to be other than there's no explaining it. Do you know what I mean? The only person who can explain that would be Diane, and she's chosen not to, so I'm O.K. with that."

"I was more reactive, I was more, 'People need to know the truth,'" Brolin continued. "Whatever I say [now] is going to sound like compensation for a perpetrator. I've gotten to a place where all that matters is that I have control over my behavior, and at that time, it was a little more chaotic."

In 2004, was arrested at his West Los Angeles home after Lane called the police to report that the actor had assaulted her.

While Lane later asked the officers not to arrest Brolin, police charged him with spousal battery and was eventually released on $20,000 bail.

"There was a misunderstanding at their home," the couple's spokesperson Kelly Bush told the New York Daily News at the time, adding that the arrest was "for the lowest-end misdemeanor charge of domestic battery. ... Diane did not want to press charges and asked them not to arrest him, but in cases involving the possibility of any physical contact, the police have to arrest first, ask questions later."

The couple would stay married for nine more years until they divorced in 2013.
