If you're a mother in the spotlight, chances are that the media will scrutinize your every move.

Along with juggling regular care giving duties first-time parents face, celebrities have to deal with being put under the microscope and mom-shamed if they do anything the public disagrees with.

But, nobody is criticized more than the Kardashian/Jenner family, despite their charity work and savvy business skills.

Kim Kardashian, 37, recently made headlines for advocating for the release of Alice Marie Johnson, a 63-year-old woman had been convicted of eight criminal counts related to a Memphis-based cocaine trafficking operation. Although it was only her first offense, she had been sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.

Thanks to the media attention Kardashian brought to the case, Johnson was eventually freed.

Forbes recently declared that Kylie Jenner, 20, was recently declared to be on track to be the world's youngest billionaire, thanks to her makeup company, Kylie Cosmetics.

Jenner's net worth is currently estimated at $900 million and the entrepreneur said she hopes to share her business with her five-month-old daughter Stormi one day.

"Maybe one day I'll pass this on to Stormi, if she's into it," Jenner told Forbes.

But despite the good publicity, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star has just gotten herself in hot water after sharing a video featuring Stormi's pierced ears.

The "Scandal"

On July 11, Jenner posted a video on Snapchat of herself playfully kissing her daughter as Stormi tugs her hair. She captioned the clip: "The best kisses."

Jenner and her boyfriend, rapper Travis Scott, welcomed Stormi into the world this past February. While Jenner had concealed her pregnancy for the entire nine months, and has made her guests follow strict rules when around her daughter, the starlet has frequently showed off her little girl in several pictures and clips since her birth.

But in this particular video, fans noticed something different about the baby girl: she has her ears pierced.

Reactions

The public has always gone back and forth between whether it's appropriate to pierce an infant's ears, and because they have the internet at their fingertips, they're ready to share their own two cents.

And as it turns out the majority of people are against Jenner's decision to give Stormi studs at such a young age.

But despite the negativity, Jenner's fans have come to her defense by arguing it's a less painful procedure for a baby compared to an older child or adult. Another said piercing a child's ears early on in life is often done in African cultures.

Should it be done?

Even though people can make their own opinion on piercing a baby's ears at a young age, it's important to know what happens when you do the deed.

The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) describes the act of child abuse as "any action [...] that causes significant harm to a child," and that typically doesn't include ear piercing.

Although the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) didn't give their stance on the issue, they said "If the piercing is performed carefully and cared for conscientiously, the process carries little risk, no matter what the age of the child."

Since there's always a chance of an infection from ear piercings, Wendy Sue Swanson, M.D. suggested that parents wait until their child is six months old.

"Any time you puncture the skin, you open up the opportunity for infection, and because infants still have developing immune systems, I encourage parents to wait until their child is at least six months old to get her ears pierced," Swanson said.

While piercing a child's ears are up to the discretion of their parents, it's crucial they know the pros and cons before letting their child undergo the quick procedure!
